It's a bit of a long shot but are there any Mumsnetters in or around Barnard Castle (Co.Durham) who fancy getting together. Daughter Grace is 6 months old.

Sadly not me, but it is a beautiful part of the world you live in!

Yes, we've just moved here from London - missing friends, great bars and art galleries but loving the fresh air, countryside, local food and general chilled out feeling of the countryside along with low low cost of living. Thanks for posting anyway.

Hello

This is my first posting on Mumsnet; I live in West Cornforth near Ferryhill so not too far from you. I moved back to the North East three years ago after living in North London for eight years and am glad to be back to a much slower way of life.

hope to hear from you

Jane

(daughter Laura is 1 year old)

Ooh how exciting! I'm just outside BC, the other side from you. Still enjoying the area - especially summer sunshine. I don't know Cornforth (although I've just looked it up on the map) - is it a good place to live?

Cornforth is a typical ex-mining village complete with cobbled back streets and blokes keeping pigeons. There are good parts and bad parts as in everywhere and I like the nosiness of the place.Everyone knows when someone f*rted ten minutes ago but I find that reassuring in a strange way!!!When I lived in London I would get odd looks if I struck up conversations at bus stops but seems to be the done thing here. I also missed little old dears in headscarves and old boys with caps saying "Now then petal"
Not much happening here...certainly no winebars/ restaurants etc but I can happily sit on a bench next to the chapel and hear cows cough, sheep baa and eat my ice lolly in peace.

Barney is a lovely place..beautiful stone houses and buildings and the walks along the river are wonderful. i envy you living there )

Sorry, this thread slipped off my radar for a while. Is there much to do with a baby socially in Cornforth. I keep meaning to go to our local parent and baby group but keep forgetting. I am in touch with some NCT classmates but we all live so far apart it's not really popping round for a chat. What kept you in London for eight years?

Not much to do in Cornforth full-stop !! Its surrounded by fields, sheep, hosses and has one of those shops thats sells everything from spuds to disguise outfits via samosas and castinets...We've just had a Doctors surgery built (prior to this we just hoped we didn't get ill ) so there may be some groups starting up where I can take my little weasel along to.

Love took me to North London for eight years ...well one of those years anyway..and also brought me back home again. What was it that brought you to County Durham?

Jane

I run some holiday cottages which belong to my parents (we live on site, they're nearby) that's not quite so romantic as love bringing me here although my dh was desperate to do this so I suppose love came into it. We've only been doing it for 3 weeks and I'm enjoying it. Forgot to go to the baby group again last week and won't make it again this week because I'm otherwise committed, oh well!
