Hello! I am 24 and moving to Malta very soon and I am wondering if there are any Mums out there who would be interested in meeting up! I have a 7 month old daughter and would love to find out where I can take my girl and make friends for both of us!

How long are you there for? I'm stuck for transport in the next few days but could do anytime from next Monday onwards. How are you finding Malta?

Ziggy24 · 29/03/2009 22:31

Malta seems to be a friendly and safe place and its a bonus they speak English. When it comes to driving, it seems anything goes and the roads are full of potholes!

The move came up as my boyfriend's work contract came to an end and there is not much opporttunity for new contracts in London at the minute.

They seem to have everyhting here although clothes and toys seem to be a bit more expensive and the shops seem to be dotted about a bit.

What brought you to Malta and how are you finding it?

I am here until next Monday.

have u attempted food shopping yet?? I never thought I'd miss Tesco or Asda - but boy do I!! My other half was transferred out here about 18mths ago with work, so I eventually came out to join him 3 weeks ago. Finding it really tough, especially with a new baby and no family/friends but I'm sure things will get better!
Driving is definitely anything goes, but at least they drive on the left, so that's one less thing to get used to. And you soon get to learn where the potholes are, you just need to get a car that hasn't got low suspension less ur buggered. So is your boyfriend trying to get work over here? Keep me updated with what your plans are, my pers email is: [email protected]
Speak soon, Tx

Hi Ladies,
Don't mean to hijack, but just wanted to offer my thoughts.
I lived in Malta for 3 years and had 2 babies there ;).

I really think you'll struggle to find any kind of mums and tots groups as they just don't seem to exist as a culture.
Most of my pals were Maltese via my elder daughters school or fellow British expats who worked for my Hubby.
Food shopping! - lol ;) Used to spend too much money in Arcadia at Portomaso for convenience sake. BUT then they built the large one on the corner in Naxxar which ahs everything all in one place, and feels a bit more European. Can't remeber what it's called! G something??

My friend is the marketing manager at eden leisure which operates the cinema and the bowling alley in St. Julians. They have afacebook page edenleisure mumsclub and run monthly 'Bowla mama' mornings and cinemum mornings - well worth attending from a social aspect.

Toys are ridiculously expensive for whatever reason. Buy of ebay or look into aramex shop and ship. I remeber Bratz dolls that were a tenner in argos were the best part of 50 quid.

Sorry to go on, but you have got me on my favourite subject. Can reccomend two babysitters also if you needed.

Have fun! - how I miss the place!

ToraBora · 31/03/2009 13:19

All advice is more than welcome!! Thanks for the tips - and babysitter recommendations would be great!! If you can think of any other useful tips, let us know! ;)

escape · 31/03/2009 13:26

Erm...For proper sausages their is an Engish butchers at Greens Supermarket, Tal i Bragg!!

Seriously, I had two brilliant babysitters who are now part of my family ;)
both 'middle aged' women with cars. Not going to give their names here of course , but if you do seriusly want to get in touch with them, let me know.

Spend as much time as possible in 'The Dubliner' at Spinola bay!

ToraBora · 31/03/2009 13:37

Funnily enough, if that's the pub opp the seafront nr Sliema, that's my bf's fav haunt!! Was going to try and find a reliable babysitter, so if your contacts would be OK with a 3mth old, let me know. My email's [email protected].
So do u wish u were still here?

escape · 31/03/2009 13:41

very much so.. It's 'home' will be back for ten days in July.
Am in Dubai now...
Will speak to Doris and Marthese and email you their mobiles...

Karl Vassallo runs the Dubliner and is half english. He is a brilliant guy, he has 3 small children. Mark, the youngest will be about 15mnths old now. the food in there is really good.
