We're going to view a house in Chelmer village at the weekend and wondered if anyone could please tell me a little more about the area and what the schools are like there?
Thanks.

Hi Bubbaloo. I used to live in Chelmsford. I know a bit about some of the schools, but dont have a child at school. Do you want primary or secondary info?

Bubbaloo · 24/03/2008 20:40

Thanks Mung.
It would initially be primary as the ds's are 3 and 1.
We're about a 40 minute drive from Chelmsford and really don't know the area at all.The house we're going to view is off Chelmer Road,in Chelmer village.

I know that there are a couple of primaries in Springfield that are good. Tyrells in excellent. There is one that has just recently been built near the Asda in Chelmer Village, not sure what it is like though.
Have you checked out the Ofsted reports?

Bubbaloo · 24/03/2008 20:57

Thanks.
According to Rightmove the nearest primary is Trinity Road primary school.I haven't checked the Ofsted reports yet but I will do.Is it a nice place in general though,to bring up children,do you think?

I just fell that Chelsmford is changing. We moved further away a couple of years ago and when I go there now I feel it has changed. I dont know Chelmer village all that well, but I think it is ok. Good facilities for children and things.
I'm on the outskirts of Colchester and I love it here.

eidsvold · 24/03/2008 21:02

we used to live outside Chelmsford in a village called Danbury. Loved it and CHelmsford area and would in fact still be there had we not moved to Aus.

UNfortunately dd1 was just a baby so cannot comment on schools. Just liked the whole area though.

Bubbaloo · 24/03/2008 21:08

It's difficult as so many areas are changing. We're not far from Romford and it was lovely when we moved here 11 years ago-the schools are now none too good.
We've just sold our house and were hoping to move to Upminster but the market is so quiet atthe moment, that we cannot find anywhere suitable,so were thinking further a field.
Yes,Danbury is lovely. We used to have friends that lived in Maldon(before they emigrated to Oz),so passed through it quite often, but again the market is slow there too,as we have looked.

Do you need to be near the main line railway?

Bubbaloo · 24/03/2008 21:14

No,not really.
Dh works in Enfield and drives to work and I'm at home with the ds's.
Colchester would be lovely if it was a bit nearer.I have a friend in Coggeshall and we're always at the zoo,but I think my mum would have kittens if we moved too far away.

Colchester to Enfield is a bit far. Coggeshall is lovely. How about Hafield Peverel or Ingatestone area? Moulsham school in Chelmsford is very good and that area of town is really nice. Much closer to town centre though and that makes it more expensive.

After all this...you may not even like the house . Hope you find something soon.

I have driven myself crazy on Rightmove these last few days, typing in different areas and although we haven't got a huge budget,it's still a decent amount and there is only a handful of properties.
Saw a lovely house yesterday in Brentwood which was perfect, except for the location.Looks like I may have alot more searching to do,before I find something.
