Moving to Tunbridge Wells in a few weeks

I am moving to Tunbridge Wells (South Side) from Greenwich (SE London) in a few weeks with my ds (3 and a bit) and dd (10 months). Really nervous about not knowing anyone and need some advice on where to go to meet people and generally keep my very energetic ds occupied!

May be going back to work part-time so also looking for a good nursery (not just term-time), or if not then pre-school recommndations!

Thanks in anticipation!

There are several MNers in Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas who will see you if you keep bumping your thread!!!

And look at Tonbridge under the Local Sites link on the blue band at the top of the screen. That has a list of local MNers and local recommendations etc.

Hello, I live in T.Wells, love it...
Good place to meet people with your ages children in St John Church on St Johns Road, opposite the petrol stations...there are at least of couple of sessions a week with toys and coffee.
Also at the sports centre down the road there are soft play sessions, junior gym or something they are called....again a couple of times a week.
Theres a magazine called the Grapevine you will see it at docs etc, it had listing or all things local.
The wellington rocks are FAB in the summer or the kids to go scrambling on.
There are childrens library times at the library...again, met other children, parents...
Its full of parents...you just need to work out which lot you fit in with

...what sort of area are you going to? If its southborough or rusthall or speldhurst theres a handy little back road to shoot down when you hit the wall of traffic trying to get through southborough.

And good shops. Pantiles lovely for lunches. There are some nice parks too as well as the commons.

And you have to get Winnie-the-Poo'd on the Ashdown Forest at Hartfield, it's a legal requirement.

Wow, thanks for some pointers.. We found a cheeky cut through via Bidborough Ridge (is that what you mean charliecat?) when we started house-hunting in Langton Green a year ago before dd arrived. Since then we spent (a LOT of) time looking in Whitstable and all over Kent, but ended up back in TW because it had a really good vibe (plus schools - arrrgh!).

We're renting in Prospect Road until something comes up to buy. It seems handy for town and I should be able to walk to most places. We found a little playground at The Grove the other day - any others?

Am intrigued about Ashdown Forest!

I'm not TW but 20 min from there, rural.

For running off energy with DS there is Planet Carnival - now called Our Space in North Farm. It's not the best soft play ever, but it's good for a rainy day.

Ashdown Forest is a good place to let off steam too. There's not exactly stuff to do - you make your own fun in the woods and bushes and big open heathland. It's good for a ramble and nice views. Down in Hartfield itself you have the Pooh shop but it's tiny and only worth a visit if you are a Pooh fan. but you can go to Pooh Bridge and play Pooh-Sticks!

You are about 3 mins from me in the car down the back road
Dont think we are on about same back road....I will come back with road names eventually...its just to avoid all the chaos which you bump into at peak times. This is if you are heading to/coming back from Tonbridge direction.
There is a nice park hading towards Tonbridge on your right...I think you may be able to see it from the road...has sand and stuff.
Theres another nice one at the bottom of Camden Road, Grovesnor Rec I think thats called.
Dunorlan for duck feeding
The rocks for all weather play(bet ive mentioned them already)

Oooh I come from there and reading about all the places makes me feel a bit homesick!
TW is lovely!
