London - Christmas Children's Party

It was suggested today at the summer picnic at Coram Fields that a Christmas children's party would be a nice idea. I am more than happy to organise this but want to gage opinions first. Coram Fields would be a great venue again assuming we could get it. Here are some questions for you to answer or put suggestions if you are interested.

  1. Venue - would Coram Fields suit everyone again or can you think of somewhere else?

  2. Would you want to attend during the week or on a weekend?

3)I was thinking of a bring a dish or two party (sort of like today) and we would decorate the hall all christmassy and have christmas crackers for the kids, etc. Also maybe some inside christmassy activities such as art stuff, games etc. Is this ok?

  1. WOuld anyone want it to be more multicultrural - a seasonal party? I am Jewish so I would certainly understand if people preferred this.

  2. OK - the big question is cost. I know that today was free and people just made donations to Binkie as the hall cost £32. However, for a proper christmas party I think we would have to charge. My reason for this is partly the venue - if say 15 families came (about what came today I think), that is £2 per family for the venue. Also, there would be some cost for the crackers, decorations, etc. How would people feel about this?

Ok, so, this is just an idea at this stage, but if we want to do it I am guessing we have to book quickly. If people aren't interested, then I will not be insulted! However, I am happy to do it if people want to come.

What do you all think?????

Good idea sis! I will start a list below and please feel free to put your name to one thing or to add something to the list that I di dnot think of. I think we will want more than one person per thing anyway.

Savoury Foods:

  1. crips, breadsticks, other finger type crunchy food
  2. raw cut up veggies and dips, hummous, etc
  3. cold meats - salamis, ham, chicken, sausages, etc
  4. sandwhiches or rolls
  5. cheese

Sweet foods:

  1. mini cakes or a large cake
  2. biscuits
  3. chocolates or chocolate bars

drinks:

  1. juice
  2. soft drinks like cola
  3. water

As you can see this is by no means a definative list as I am lacking in imagination. If you want to bring something not on the list, please do. Also, how about volunteers for paper plates, cups, etc. So people bringing those don't need to bring food or drink.

Hi Ilana, I'll bring some cheese squares and a carton of apple juice. I might also have some paper plates / cups etc. as it's dd's birthday party next weekend and I'm sure I've bought too many so I'll bring all the leftovers.

You're right, it's looking great. Can't wait!

By the way I know we've got the date but have we decided on any particular time scale? Sorry if this is further down the list, it's so long I haven't got enough time to run through it again. Maybe you could add date and time to your on-going list?

hoxtonchick · 09/10/2004 12:55

We'll bring biscuits. Hooray!

charliecatthenonsmoker · 09/10/2004 12:56

Id love to come bit i live in tunbridge wells, would it be easy to find?

IlanaK · 09/10/2004 18:49

Hi charliecatthenonsmoker - I really have no idea what transport links are like from Tunbridge Wells. However, Coram Fields is a short walk from Russle Square tube station. ALternatively, if a train to Euston station is easier, there is a bus from there that goes (about 5 minutes) to Russel Square. It is not too difficult to find if you don't mind travelling into london.

Prefernot - good idea about adding the date and time - I will do that below.

Ok, here is the ongoing list:

I'll help set up with kids and/or clean up without kids (husband will take them home). And man booths when people need a break, if you show me how to do it first.

Ummm, can I request no peanutty things? Or no peanutty candy bars? My son will be carrying his epipen and will ask (he's supposed to), so it's not a huge deal.

charliecatthenonsmoker · 09/10/2004 19:00

Thank You I will get my maps out and have a look!

IlanaK · 09/10/2004 19:14

Absolutely JJ! Please everyone check ingredients carefully and make sure no nut products. We certainly don't want any accidents with something so important!

OP posts:
binkie · 09/10/2004 19:52

hurrah.!!!
so what needs doing/food bringing?

motherinferior · 10/10/2004 20:09

Binkie, a jelly tree has got to be worth the detour.

I could put my sausages on it for decoration...

sis · 10/10/2004 20:21

no, you keep your sausages away from the lovely veggie jelly!

piximon · 11/10/2004 14:25

Is there still room at the inn? I'd love the chance to meet up with some other mums. Not sure how much help I'd be able to offer with a 22mth and a 3mth in tow, as I don't think dh would be coming with me.
I could bring some boxes of mini cakes if I can't manage carrying a large one without a disaster.

SusiS · 11/10/2004 15:07

is it ok to come by car? is there a car park??? or better tube?
