No idea what you are saying (would love to learn Spanish though - can you start conversation classes for families?).

Anyhoo, are you over here now? Did you manage to get your hands on a local property paper?

Hi Sue

Not yet. but thought I might try and find some Spanish speakers near where we're moving to. Don't want ds1 and dd to lose their Spanish. although I realise that is likely. I was rather hoping to find some Spanish families in Sheffield that we could meet up with once a month or something.

we decided on matlock in the end, and have rented a gorgeous house. It's smaller than our house now though so we're currently sorting like mad.

anyway - that's a good idea actually. dd, bossyboots that she is, would love to teach other children spanish. ...

Can't remember how old your children are but I recently helped some people who approached me as NCT newsletter ed to set up German and French speaking parent and child groups in Nottingham.

They put up notices at the Nearly New Sale which attracted a few people in and, because I had various contacts I had made through NCT - in my classes and doing baby-related stuff - I was able to put them in touch with more and with each other and with another group in the area.

The nature of the beast is that people who aren't local tend to go to NCT classes to meet other people. I've only taught 17 couples so far and I've had German, French and Dutch people in my classes so might be worth using that.

Not sure what publications there are - I think there's an Active Kids thing that goes out to local libraries and some schools that might be worth a try.

well ds2 is 8 months so nct might be a good plan.

there's probably one in matlock or at least chesterfield...

Hispanoparlantes?

How about contacting the universities? Hallam has a big TEFL dept so you may be able to contact spanish speakers through them and Sheffield Uni has a good langs dept, bound to be some spaniards there too

SenoraPostrophe · 26/05/2007 17:10

thanks, imf - that's what chandra suggested. will try derby university first though maybe as it's easier to get to come to think of it.

Is that sheffield speak? do they talk funny up there, I once read a poem that was written in yorkshire speak about some man losing his hat on a moor called inkley moor I think. I couldn't understand the poem and I don't know why they can't just write it in English because what is the point in writing a poem in Yorkshire that only Yorkshire poeple can understand, it's not very good is it?

Hi,
You were along the costa del sol weren't you? Near Malaga? I remember your name from when I was looking on mumsnet when I got pregnant last year. I moved to Estepona 2 years ago after nearly 12 years in Barcelona. I have since met up with Lucy (Lucy5)who lives near me. Actually, my sister in law -french but has been living in Spain for years-has just moved to Belper, maybe for 2 months, maybe longer. She would love to speak Spanish with someone...if she has time. Her dd is 4 months old and she and my brother were trying to live in Barcelona and run a business in the Uk but babies have a habit of changing things. They are now in Belper and she is back at work part time. Are you from Derbyshire originally? How are you finding life in the uk after so long in SPain?

Hello,I'm new! But I typed in a search for Matlock because my husband's got a job there starting in September and so we're thinking of moving too. We're in Sheffield at the moment where I have loads of baby friends and brill mum! so I'm a bit anxious about moving and being lonely with 2 kids under 3. Have visions of commuting back to sheffield to see friends! We visited on sunday and it was beautiful but I felt it was small!! Senora, have you met up with other mums? Is there a nice vibe there?
