I don't live in windsor, but am not too far away.
It really is a lovely place, what i've seen that is.

littleducks · 26/12/2006 22:31

i live close by, parts of windsor are lovely but some parts are rough, were you interested in primary/secondary schools? private or state?

QuootiepieTheChristmasAss · 28/12/2006 16:27

I used to live in Windsor - most my life, and then moved to Bracknell 3 years ago. Windsor is really starting to go to the dogs, there's nothing to do, crime is quite high actually. I wouldn't move back there. I used to live on a really exclusive, private road, and even there they are knocking down one house, and building 3... try upmystreet.com for more info.

vnmum · 28/12/2006 20:02

my DS is only one so i am planning ahead with regards to schoold but it seems you have tyo these days. i cant afford private schooling so it would have to be state.

which are the rough areas as im moving with the army and dont get much choice in where we live. i think its broom farm where most of the housing is.

i did look on upmystreet and it didnt look too bad and also looked on the windors borough website and there seemed to be enough to do but that is why im asking of people who actually live there to tell me the truth rather than rely on websites that are probably aimed at tourists to the area

any more info kindly appreciated

Hiya-
Is Broom farm up St. Leonards Hill? Or is it in Dedworth? Either places im thinking of are OK. What schools would you be looking at? Church of England/Catholic/other?

MissChief · 03/01/2007 14:10

loads of crime in Windsor?!
Er, no, don't think so or isolated only to rough bits. Have you seen how many police are aroound everywhere?! Always feels v safe.
Loads to do with kids, primary state schools not great though but windsor boys/girls got good rep

Quootiepie · 03/01/2007 14:12

I guess not compared to alot of places... Dedworth is abit iffy, and theres been a few shootings in the town centre. And to be blunt, I wouldn't touch Windsor Girls School with a barge pole.

hatwoman · 03/01/2007 14:18

i have friends in Windsor and I think it's lovely BUT check the flight paths and times -my friends live right under a flight path and, tbh, it's awful. on some days out in the garden you have to stop talking every 45 seconds. and you wake up in the morning thinking that a jumbo jet is about to land in your bedroom. And remember it varies from day to day so if you visited your house to be once and heard nothing, that's no guarantee it will always be like that

Quootiepie · 03/01/2007 14:20

oh yeah, the airplanes! We lived at the very top of St. Leonards Hill (a big hill ) and I think it was something silly like every 4 minutes sometimes. Did get used to it, but, going back to visit our old neighbour it's terrible!

MissChief · 03/01/2007 14:31

yeah , the planes, some long-timers swear they don;t notice tjhough. Depends how noise-sensitive you are, I guess. Windsor has a lot going for it though so need to weigh up the pros & cons for yourself.

vnmum · 05/01/2007 18:49

hi Quootiepie.

Broom farm is in Oakley green. can you tell me why you wouldnt touch windsor girls school?

i am looking at CofE schhols or non denominatory ones. im not sure if we could afford private schooling.

i was actually down in windsor over new year with friends and had a drive around. it seemed ok to me but i dont know the rough places etc like current residents would.

how can you check the flight paths?

Hiya

Windsor girls school has a bad reputation. There are alot of good schools in slough - not private. Oakley green area is nice, I think I know where you mean. That area is fine... I think im biased because of how the area I lived went! Plane noise isn't unbearable... I lived ontop of a hill, so, it would be noisy, but, the area you are going is abit out of the way of the flightpath I think. What age are your children?

vnmum · 05/01/2007 19:17

my Ds is only one but we will be there permanently and im planning ahead. also we are TTC number 2 and are hoping for a girl

oh right! There's me thinking of secondary schools! Ofsted website is a good place to look, so are the league tables.
