Hi! we are expecting our first child in March and are about to move to Lancaster - probably around Dec 20th. Are there any mums-to-be due around the same time who also live in or near Lancaster???

Eva1977 · 16/11/2006 19:31

Hi gigglinggoblin! Thank you for your message!

It is good to know that there are quite a few mn'ers in Lancaster! We are moving up from Reading. dh is in Lancaster already, but I can't leave my job until mid December, so have to stay here until then.

If there are any of you meeting up again, I'd really like to join you. At the moment I go up to Lancaster about every other weekend, but, as said, will be there permanently from 20th December.

hello! I live very near Lancaster & work in Lancaster itself. DS is 16mths. And guess what....DP is from Reading & we are big RFC fans! Small world!

We really should oragnise a Lancaster & district meet-up.

Eva1977 · 21/11/2006 18:48

Thanks for your message, chocolateshoes! Yes, I would really like a meet-up. the thought of moving to a new city not knowing anybody when still having 3 months to go till birth worries me a bit. I want to be able to enjoy my time off before the baby, rather than being absolutely bored. so...please let me know when a meet- up is organised!!!

by the way Eva the Infirmary where you might be having your baby is excellent. The midwives are really lovely. Hpoefully, that'll set your mind at rest a bit!

Eva1977 · 22/11/2006 12:52

Thanks for that info - it is the Infirmary where I am planning to have the baby. Just had a mw appointment yesterday and was talking to her about how to go about getting the next appointment, which is due Christmas week. Did you go to your GP and practise mw for all check-ups or at the infirmary itself? I would need to get the apointment sorted now, while still in REading as otherwise they'll probably be fully booked.

Yes I went to my local practice mw all the way through but went to Parentcraft classes at the infirmary. Are you moving into Lancaster itself?

chocolateshoes · 22/11/2006 19:01

PS make sure you stock up on loads of baby clothes from H&M, Zara etc as the shops here aren't a patch on Reading!

Eva1977 · 22/11/2006 19:33

chocolateshoes - I did notice that Lancaster hasnt got the same variety of shops as Reading does. Was shocked to discover that there does not seem to be a TESCO, Aldi or Lidl anywhere nearby, and neither could we find a Petsathome

Yes, we are moving to Lancaster itself. DH has just moved into the property we'll be renting for the next year or so, which is in the Greaves area. You said you live near Lancaster - which way do you live? I really can't wait to move up to Lancaster now - not only to be re-united with dh and excited about leaving work, but actually much prefer the city to Reading (apart from the shopping situation ) Not originally from Reading btw - from Hamburg, but have lived in various cities and several countries - though mainly UK - for the past 10 years.

Sorry, my posts always seem to end up quite long....

there's two Aldis fgs

and a tesco

but they're all in Morecambe which is spitting distance

if you live in Greaves though you'll have to shop in Booths or Sainsburys and pretend you don't know what an Aldi looks like

We live in a village in the Lune Valley which is between Lancaster & Kirkby Lonsdale. We have lived in Lancaster itself but now enjoy living out in the country (must be getting old!). We too had lived all over the place before moving here & we did find it quite quiet and rural at first and it was a bit of a shock to the system. Now we're very happy here & really appreciate the quality of life up here. Whenever DP's parents who live in Reading come up they are amazed at how pleasant & polite people are, little graffitti etc. It really is a beautiful part of Britain.

On the practicalities there is a middle sized Tescos in Carnforth & they do online deliveries. There's a biggish sainsburies in lancaster city centre. But as for high street stores Lancaster shopping is not great & I must admit when I go to Reading I do go a bit mad & stock up!

Must be horrible being away from your DH especially when expecting your 1st baby. 4 weeks to wait is it?

chocolateshoes · 22/11/2006 19:49

Hey Cappucino - you round here too?
