Me!!! Im new to mn but been a lurker for a few weeks. Which area do you live in? Im Southbank/Bishopthorpe rd - races this weekend which is always interesting, lots of dishevelled drunks staggering by my window

Hi Sereneno

I'm on the other side of Town, near the Minster, so the races don't affect me at all. Been to Homestead Park today, it was lovely.

Me too - I'm in Haxby - moved recently from the SE - I have a 3.5 yr old and another due in Feb - Do you know of any good antenatal exercise classes in the area?

JBW · 15/10/2006 11:19

Hi DrJo

I used to live in the SE as well,in Chessington. Moved away a long time ago now. I did my antenatal classes in Chester (where I was living at the time - have moved around a bit) through the National Childbirth Trust. If you look on their website they may have some exercise classes you could try.

Thanks JBW, I'll give it a try. I love York but I do find the leisure facilities a bit poor (unless you want to join a private club!)

Hello DrJo, there are a couple of pregnancy yoga classes based in town, i can find you links if you are interested. There is also an antenatal swimming session at Yearsley pool and i think both swimming pools have women only sessions with a separate lane for pregnant ladies.

Unfortunately leisure facities have been diminished due to the farcial closure of the Barbican centre!

Once you have your baby City Screen in town have a mums and babies film session every weds morning which is fab...makes you feel great watching a civilised film and it doesnt matter if the lo cries as everyone there is in the same boat.

There is a strong NCT network in York too

Just been to York Library. There are leaflets (by the lift) advertising Pregnancy Yoga classes.

Thanks (again!) JBW and THBM - I have found the yoga stuff on the web and have been doing that for a few weeks now - its wonderfully relaxing - I was just looking for something a (little) bit more energetic - I used to cycle about 10 miles a day to take my son to nursery but I had to give that up due to morning sickness so I was looking for something else now I feel better. I like the sound of the pregnancy swimming lane - do they put a whale symbol up or what The cinema sounds great fun too - I don't get to see many films as we haven't got onto a baby sitting network since we moved up here

JBW · 17/10/2006 18:08

THBM - do they do films any other day as it sounds good fun but unfortunately I work on a Wednesday

Hi - I'm in Barmby Moor, near Pocklington, so go into York quite a lot.
I have a 16 month dd and a ds due at the beginning of Dec.

Never got to the Big Scream (mother and baby film session at CityScreen) with dd because it never seemed to be a film I wanted to see on a day I could make, but was always meaning to - maybe next time!

Do any of you know what the delivery suites are like in York - I gather they no longer do tours - Do they have a birthing pool or anything like that?

bottersnike · 19/10/2006 13:08

Hi, I'm in York too but have just gone back to work. Two ds aged 3.6 and 6 months.
Ds2 was born at York Hospital - yes they have a birthing pool room and it's fantastic!
I'm in Strensall so just down the road from you!

DrJo · 19/10/2006 13:46

Thanks bottersnike - are your 2 in nursery? - My DS (3.6 too!) is at Clifton Moor but we were wondering about the Haxby one for the new one as it will be easier when DS starts school.

Do you know about the post natal group in haxby? It's a really good place to meet other mums, very welcoming. It's open to all mums in York, not just those in Haxby. It's at Oaken Grove Community centre, Haxby, YO32 3QZ. The first half (12.30-1.30) is quite informal- just mums chatting and eating toasties. It takes place in the cafe, so you could even bring your toddler. The sesond half is in a different room, there's a different speaker every week. The babies are lolling around on the floor so bringing your toddler might not be so appropriate if they're very lively.
