very possibly moving up in next few months due to redundancy and general need to be closer to family support and living in a nicer house for the money! I am from there originally but have not lived ther for almost 7 years, lots of my old school friends etc have moved away or I wouldn't know where they are now days

I'm not in Coventry, but close (Leamington). There are occasional mumsnet Midlands meetups - usually around Solihull - if you want to get to know other musnetters in the area.

Thankyou, Im not sure exactly where we'll be living yet, I have seen a job I might go for in leamington though, just want a nice family house by a good school and not too far from family and friends, can't be as far as I am now eh! lol

i live in coventry good luck choosing your new place cov has its nice and its horrible areas as every place does
my nan lives in chelysmore,
and have previously lived in coundon.

chocolatemummy · 17/08/2006 19:47

yeah Cov does have some nasty areas but having lived down here, I think they are everywhere but Coventry is a large city so in a way you can avoid those areas easier. AND we can afford a house in a nice area now we have made our money down here. My dh is from down here so i have to get a good house in a good area to make it feel worth it to him
I have been looking at ofsteds for primary schools and they are pretty scattered.

Leamington is nice I know but I dont know how cheap it is? not very I expect

I don't think Leamington that's dear, tbh. I expect it has its rough bits, but they've done the centre up recently and it's just sooo..... bijou! But it's not great for public transport. We're in Balsall Common, which has good rail links to Birmingham and Coventry. And excellent primary schools and a good high school (Heart of England). Not sure how it compares with Finham which is, as Cowmad says, the best state secondary school in Coventry itself. Although I've heard good things about Coundon's, too. If I were looking for something in the city centre, I'd definitely go for Earlsdon though. Otherwise, I can heartily recommend Balsall Common - just enough of a village feel, but nice & convenient for Solihull, Brum, L'spa, etc. Don't let the estate agents put you off; one lot are snooty, and the other are incompetent. Allegedly

chocolatemummy · 18/08/2006 17:17

wow you are very helpful, if I come back we'll have to meet up and i'll buy you a drink for the advice!
I was brought up basically opposite the memorial park in Green lane North so i know Earlsdon and Styvechale well. Earlsdon is a very popular place but you do pay through the nose for not much house, no parking and lots of students and bedsits now days from what my mum says. Our main reasons for moving back up are to pay off some of our mortgage and still get a decent house. Balsall Common sounds interesting and I know that Hollyfast primary and Coundon Court schools in Coundon are very good. I will be looking into it. I guess as my daughter is only just coming up to 3 I am more concerned with a good sized garden and preferably a nice park near by, good primary school and being closer to my mum and sisters. Secondary school is 8 years away and I'm not looking that far ahead.

Don't know the Coventry ones - but could fill you in on Leamington if you end up here. Or on the one ds went to in Stoneleigh which gets a few children from the Southern end of Coventry.

lauraandjosh · 08/09/2006 11:13

hi if your still looking for nurseries my son goes to grace day nursery which is in the city centre, i live in coundon so it's fairly easy to get to. i'd recommend it cos the price includes all meals, nappies snacks drinks etc and compared to some it is fairly reasonably priced and they are fairly flexible in terms of days hours etc you want to do.
