Hi there, Iv'e just had a baby boy, he's 13 weeks now. i'm in fair oak, not far from you. have you got to know much of the area yet?

Tallysmummy · 15/07/2006 20:01

Hi
Im slowly getting to know the area. I dont think i have come across Fair Oak yet. It is really quiet on here, not many people in this area. I have a little girl who is now 14 weeks old (Its gone so fast!) Sorry for the delay in answering the message but i have just come back from a week away.

HI Tally

I live just down the motorway in Portsmouth, i have a 15 month old baby girl.

Tallysmummy · 17/07/2006 15:38

Hi
Wow there are few mum's out there!

I know portsmouth as we went there yesterday, we are currently looking for a house to buy which is a bit stressful with a baby and not knowing the area.

Hi Tallysmummy, I'm in Chandlers ford and work in Fair Oak although my two are 4 & 2 now. where have you relocated from?

Tallysmummy · 18/07/2006 13:21

Hi whoopsfallenoveragain We were living in Maidstone , in Kent before moving to Hedge End. We are renting here and looking for somewhere to buy. Whats Chandlers ford like? we have informaton on some houses there, but we dont know the area.

OP posts:
whoopsfallenoveragain · 18/07/2006 17:54

Chandlers Ford is nice - I like it for the motorway links as I go to Poole alot and also is close to Eastleigh and is easy to get to the centre of Southampton too.

Tallysmummy · 18/07/2006 19:52

Cool thanks i will have a closer look at the houses now.

Is there any where nice i can take my dd (15 weeks old)

whoopsfallenoveragain · 20/07/2006 19:42

Sorry Tallysmummy I've not really been round here with the babies being small when ds was born we were nearer Bitterne where they had a few mother and baby groups and we were living in Scotland when dd was born. I now work full time so have completely lost touch with the group side of things

chocolatefudge · 20/07/2006 20:59

Hi Tallysmummy,

We moved to Whiteley in Fareham not long ago we used to live in Bexleyheath Kent and we've also lived at Kings Hill in West Malling not far from Maidstone. Locks Heath is nice and Sarisbury Green if your looking for houses. We have 2 girls one is nearly 2 and a half and my youngest is 7 months old.

Tallysmummy · 21/07/2006 13:11

Hi Thank you for your help! I have a number of houses i like in Locks Heath so i might go and have a look at them. I know King's hill very well, i had all my scans done at Kent Medical Imaging when i was pregnant! (Many hours spent walking around the place trying to get my little monkey to move into the right postion to be scanned!!)

What made you move this way? How long you been this way for?

OP posts:
chocolatefudge · 21/07/2006 19:58

Hi,
We moved here because my husband wanted to get away from living near to London and he now has just recently got a job in Fareham. Also my MIL/FIL live in Whiteley so handy for baby sitting if we needed it. It's nice for the children to grow up here. I miss my mum and friends though back in Kent. Where were you before moving to Hedge End? wouldn't you like to get a house there?

Tallysmummy · 21/07/2006 20:15

Hi
Before here we lived in Maidstone and before that i lived at home with my parents on the Isle of Sheppey. I too miss my family and friends loads! Your lucky having your in-laws near by mine are in Leamington Spa so we are completly on our own.
I would love to buy a house around here but they are so expensive and we have found we can get more for our money looking in different areas. I agree it is a nice area for children, although all my DD gets to see is the local shops because that all i know how to drive to .
Have you found any nice places to take your girls for a day out?

OP posts:
whoopsfallenoveragain · 21/07/2006 20:18

Tallysmummy - I know how you feel in a new araea with no one to help we moved up to scotland for a couple of years with no family there (they are all around here) Has your hv given you any details of mother & baby groups or NCT groups? or have you tried the childrens information service?

Tallysmummy · 21/07/2006 20:27

Hi
I have just joined a first time mum's group that can only run for half an hour a week for 4 weeks due to staffing shortages!!!!!! so im hoping to meet some people there. I love Scotland!!! What part did you live?

OP posts:
whoopsfallenoveragain · 21/07/2006 20:43

We were near Motherwell - It was nice but I felt lonely.
I met some friend at a first time Mums group some of us still meet now 5 years on!

chocolatefudge · 21/07/2006 20:48

Royal Victoria country park in Netley is nice, Paulton's park is good we went a week ago. There's a nice park in Locks heath in Church Rd. I haven't been to West Quay shops yet as worried i will get lost LOL been to fareham shops a few times. I like Port Solent it's nice there to have a meal out and Gun Wharf's nice too i'd like to go to the shops on a Saturday without the girls one day as it's impossible as Jenny doesn't like being in her push chair and Aimee cries after a while out.

I've joined a parent group but am going to join NCT it's hard meeting new mums as i wanted to meet new mums with babies aswell but can't go to those groups with my eldest which is annoying. I've met 2 mums but they already have alot of friends but i see them once a week.

chocolatefudge · 21/07/2006 20:49

I've kept in touch with a girl from Kings Hill as her baby was born a day after my eldest.

GarfieldsGirl · 21/07/2006 21:34

hiya just nosing in here.

cf - very wise to avoid west quay. you ill definately get very lost and walk round and round in circles. escalators are in silly place, not enough places to sit on food level. It has to be the most badly designed shopping centre I've been in.

stringbean · 21/07/2006 23:08

Lots of places for days out in the area. Another vote for Royal Victoria Country Park; also Itchen Valley Country Park (great for kids from about 2 years old, so yours may be a little young) which is at West End, and Manor Farm at Hedge End. We have a season ticket for Marwell Zoo - worth thinking about for next summer; we go there a lot and spend the day/take a picnic (under threes are free). We also love Moors Valley at Ringwood (again, suitable for children once they're 2-3, but it is pushchair-friendly). The New Forest is close by (though nightmare traffic at this time of year). I think Southampton is pretty horrible, frankly (and I grew up there!); West Quay has high street shops and not much else. Gunwharf in Portsmouth is much better, and has a much nicer atmosphere (you can have lunch overlooking the harbour). Winchester is nice to browse round too, although it irks me that too many of the shops are hard to get into with a pushchair; the river there is lovely. Sorry I can't help with toddler groups etc., as mine are beyond that now, but I found the local branch of the NCT helpful.

whoopsfallenoveragain · 22/07/2006 07:53

I have a friend who is involved with the NCT and there is a Hedge End/Botley tea group I can get a contact name and number for you if you like.

Tallysmummy · 22/07/2006 17:13

Hi whoopsfallenoveragain, that contact number and name would be great thanks!

Hi stringbean Thank you for your ideas i will sure check them out. Im getting a bit bored being stuck in doors all the time.

Hi chocolatefudge Thank you for your ideas i will check them out. I have been to West Quay a few times its not that bad, mamma & pappa's are close by it which is handy, and a large mothercare and boots near it. Im still lucky as Tally likes shopping, she enjoys looking around and when people stop to talk to her she is full of smiles. The only other groups i have found are mother and toddler groups and i think Tally is still a little too young for that. They should do more for parents with more that one child.

There is a new mums and toddler group in Bitterne. It is in the Vineyard church in Marne Road, (from J7 M27, head towards Southampton, next rbt head for Bitterne, you go down a steep hill then as you rise you'll see a baby shop on the right, take the right immediately after this, 4th right and it's the white building actually on the corner.) It is closed for summer now as I think all are. But there is a summer picnic at 12 noon on 6th August meeting outside the cafe in Victoria country park.

This one is a particular friendly group which has only been going for one term so still has few members. This has the advantage of being quiet (some bigger groups are as loud as Butlins) and not intimidating in any way. The mums circulate freely and the organisers go out of their way to make you feel more than welcome.

ps I dont work for them or anything. I just find the adult conversation a breath of fresh air.

Tallysmummy · 24/07/2006 11:33

Thank you i will look into it when the holiday is over. would love to meet more people.

Does anyone know what Locks heath is like? very nice house there i like.

What about schools????

There is also a great house in Hedge End but that might be to expensive at the mo. What are schools like in Hedge End?

Sorry to ask so many questions but do not know area and worried about buying in the wrong area.
