Used to live in Bishop Auckland but moved here 6 years ago when dd was 18 months. Gave birth to ds nearly 5 months ago. Feeling pretty isolated as none of my friends have kids so they hate talking babies all the time. Not that I do but it is nice to be able to compare note once in a while.

My ds is 18 months

juniper68 · 03/02/2004 12:23

My sons are 6 and 3
I felt isolated with my first and took him to mother and toddler groups as ppl go with babies. It's a chance to have a natter and a coffee, plus baby gets to meet children.

EmmaKB · 03/02/2004 21:37

There used to be a mother and baby group at our local play barn but the now close during the day. I may feel different when I go back to work next month. Have to say though, I am dreading it. Can't bear the thought of leaving ds. He is definately a mammy's boy. I never go anywhere without him. Will have to have some trial runs to get him used to me not being there.

Do you work? How did you feel going back?

I work emma - went back when ds was five months
hate it and want to go part time
look at teh newcastle mums thread - we are trying to have a meet up nest month if you can make it

EmmaKB · 03/02/2004 22:17

Would love to work part time. Well, more part time as I only work 4 days a week but my job isn't the kind of job I can only do a couple of days a week and the place where I work are not replacing people when they go part time or leave. I have done my sums and couldn't afford it anyway. I do like my job but I would rather spend time bringing up baby and baking. I sufferd from postnatal depression for the first 4 months and for the last month have felt a lot better but today I have felt very tearful and depressed.

I'll be fine once I get back in the swing of it. I hope.

Oh Emma - i know how you feel about woprk - i feel exactly the same!
There are ok days and bad days

Hi Emma and popsycal,
I don't work and I really feel for you having to when you'd rather be at home. It annoys me that mums aren't supported more (financially) so that they can be SAHMs. In France they get paid for I think 2 years to stay home.
Can't you see if you're entitled to extra benefits or sick pay because you have PND?
