Hi. Any new mums in North London? Thought it would be nice to organise a meet-up or a day out. I just had my first baby four weeks ago.

Hi there,
where are you? I'm in Finchley, and my dd is now 6 weeks old - I would love to meet some other mums in the area, as we moved here when I found out I was pregnant and I don't know anyone at all (sob, sob, :o !!)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/04/2006 23:45

Hi, im in North London, but im not a new mum Grin

Amiable · 10/04/2006 23:54

VVV, hi there. I'm on two threads at the moment about meeting up so this could get a bit confusing (for me anyway!) How old is/are yours?

lilsmom · 11/04/2006 11:19

Hi Amiable... I don't know any mums around here either! I'm in West Hampstead. I found out that there's a weekly movie on in Hampstead for mothers and babies-- it's normal movies, but you can bring you baby. I'm thinking of going on Thursday.

I'm a north london mum, (not new though dd is 4 ds 1). Am in Woodside Park.

Amiable · 11/04/2006 14:12

The film idea sounds good - depending on what the film is! There is a similar thing on at the Phoenix in East Finchley, on a Tuesday. Any idea what is on on Thursday in Hampstead? Also what time? It is a possibility for me. Other than that how about arranging a meet for sometime at the end of April? It would be great to be able to meet up and chat with other mums - VVV and CHICagoMUM, you can be our gurus as you've got the experience!! Wink
I have the "in-laws" coming to stay the weekend after Easter, they are German and don't speak much English and my German is very basic, so lots of smiles and nodding all weekend! The good thing is I don't have any complaints about my dp's mum giving me unwanted advice - cos I can't understand her!! I am sure I will need to have some normal conversation after then, so a meet would be great.

Hi! Movie in Hampstead is at 12:00 tomorrow-- Pierrepont. It's at the Everyman Theatre. Other than that, it would be great to organise a meet-up at the end of April and all are welcome!

So sorry, but I'm being a muppet. I can't do this Thursday, as I am already meeting some work friends. Blush This nappy brain is the worst. I have to make a note of everything... but then I have to remember where I put the note! Lilsmom, sorry not to be able to meet you tomorrow, but definitely on for a meet at the end of April. Any day week beginning 24th works for me (and this time I checked my diary!)

Hello, I'm on another thread with Amiable but she's also directed me here. I'm another Finchley mum with a dd who is almost 4 months old. Count me in for a meet-up at the end of April. If there are quite a few of us and the weather is good??? perhaps a picnic on Hampstead Heath could be an idea.

lilsmom · 13/04/2006 14:37

That's a great idea picnic on the heath! In the meantime, how is everyone managing? I'm trying to follow a loose routine, but even that has been going out the window lately she seems to want to feed constantly and it has been going on for more than 2 days, so I can't blame it on a growth spurt... Does anyone use dummies? Do they work?!

OP posts:
Amiable · 14/04/2006 14:41

wouldn't be without a dummy, but he is my dp, so what can I do?!!! Old joke I know. I've been using one with dd since she was a couple of weeks old. We don't use it much, but it really seems to help her calm down when she's upset - uasually when she has wind and we can't seem to shift it. I know all the arguments against - teeth alignment problems later on, dependency etc but for us it really works.

dd is very easy going, so much easier to look after than I had psyched myself up for. (I was prepared for worst case scenario) She also seemed to go through a non-stop eating phase at around 4 weeks, it only lasted a couple of days, but she went from feeding every 3 hours or so to every 2 hours or so. We increased the amount of formula for each feed and she settled back into a 3 hour pattern. Not much help if you are breastfeeding, I know.

A picnic on the Heath sounds great. We should probably have a back-up plan as well - somewwhere indoors so if the weather is grotty we still can meet. I really don't know the area, so hope one of you can suggest somewhere? also, what day suits everyone best. As I say anytime the week starting 24th April is good for me, or the following week after the bank holiday.

nicose · 17/04/2006 10:11

Dummies were a godsend in the early days but I don't use them very much now and the feeding sounds like a growth spurt.

Regarding the picnic meet-up I can make either Thursday or Friday of any week. I agree it is weather permitting and I can see us all huddled in the car park if it starts pouring with rain.

If anyone's interested a couple of us are meeting for coffee probably this Thursday at the Finchley Arts Depot. Check out the "Mums in the Finchley Area" thread.
