Hi, is there any other mums out there that live around the reading area. I have just moved here and not sure of whats on for mother and toddlers. I would love to meet up with other mums and their babes as I think my little 14 month old is getting a little bit bored of seeing his mummy every day.

Hi Mim, sorry I haven't replied for so long. Had a hectic month and not been able to get on the internet much. Had to search the archives to find the thread!.

Were you at the Sulhampstead group this Friday. I usually sit in the 'baby corner' lol when I go.

Piggiesmum · 10/06/2006 22:48

Ooop I'm OooooMeToo btw

Ellbell · 10/06/2006 23:06

Just sending a wave... I live up north now, but used tolive in (or, rather, near) Mortimer for a while (pre-kids,somo good advice).

Don't know if it's the same place as Fledglings but got the most fabulous breastfeeding advice from a group that met in Finchampstead church hall when I had dd2 (lived in Reading at that time, but travelled out there as I was desperate for advice over a Bank Holiday weekend). They saved my nipples from further agonising pain and kept me breastfeeding for a few more months. Wish I'd known about them sooner.

Sorry no real help, but have happy memories of when I lived out there (also lived in Bramley for a while and dh lived in Silchester).

Ellbell · 10/06/2006 23:07

Sorry, meant to be 'so no good advice'. Typing after shutting fingers in car door! Ow!

Piggiesmum · 10/06/2006 23:15

We've driven through Bramley, looks very nice and posh :o.

We've moved down here from Up North lol
We were abit worried about people not being so friendly down south but so far everyone has been really friendly.

Ellbell · 10/06/2006 23:44

Oh, it's a nice area, Piggiesmum. I liked it there.

mim64 · 13/06/2006 08:35

Hi Oooometoo aka Piggiesmum, you threw me abit with your new nickname. Yes I was in Sulhampstead on Fri, will be there again on Fri I think I put my name down to bring cakes in. What did you think of it? Its quite friendly and relaxed, alot better then the previous one I went to in Spencers Wood. I was standing next to the stage. I did notice alot of new babies in the baby corner Ben did go and sit next to some mums in the baby corner he had the blue t-shirt with the monkey face on and orange shorts.
Where abouts from the north are you. My husband is originally from pontefract and his parents live in Doncaster, we were there this weekend lovely weather. Anyway see you at sulhampstead on Fri.

Hi, Yes it is nice and friendly there. I tried another one (not in Mortimer) but all the mums just sat round the edge looking miserable so we never went back.

I remember there being a little 2 little boys and someone called one of them Ben. I wondered if it might be your Ben. Anyway we'll be there again this week. See you there.

mim64 · 16/06/2006 13:19

Hi Piggiesmum, did you go to Sulhampstead today. I think I may have recognised you from the estate. Do you have mousey brown bobbed hair? I didn't go over to the baby group, was abit embarrassed to ask who was piggiesmum!!

OP posts:
Piggiesmum · 16/06/2006 21:38

lol Yes that sounds like me. I was wearing a blue top and ds was more interested in watching the toddlers in the plastic cars than playing with his baby mates :o

I was trying to work out who you might be but I'm the same - too embarrased to say to anyone 'are you mim64'.

Did you take any cakes. The chocolate brownies were rather nice. :o

mim64 · 17/06/2006 10:08

Ok, if you're there next week I'll say hello or if I see you around the estate. Ben was in a Orange striped polo t-shirt and I was in a white top and black trs. Ben was abit clingy this week, I think he was abit tired. I did bring cakes in I made the chocolate and orange muffins. Theres alot more babies now. When we first stated going there were only about 2 or 3. Does anyone else from the estate go?

Piggiesmum · 18/06/2006 16:23

:o There was a bit of an invasion in the baby corner this week wasn't there. :o

I don't really know half of them but I don't think there's anyone else from the estate (although there does seem to be plenty of people with babies walking around the estate)

Anyway See you Friday.

nannyjo · 18/06/2006 16:33

sorry to gate crash. I used to live and nanny in reading 5 years ago now. I want to meet up with e friend there but not got a clue where 'the place to go' is anymore.

Gingernut mentioned a soft play place near Madjeski stadium. Is it good and how do i get into it from the J11 M4?

Thanks

vickiyumyum · 18/06/2006 17:09

easy peasy, follow signs for madjeski stadium, when you get to the roundabout just past courages and before comet/b&q turn left (first exit off roundabout) and then follow signs for mad house, roundabout after costco basically.

the mad house is good, its quite new so nice and clean and unbroken (unlike some others i've been to) it has a nice cafe as well, as with all soft play areas if you can go in the day when the older kids are at school it is quieter and the younger ones get to ply without being bumped into. now i am going to be a bit bitchy with my next comment, but i find it nicer than yippees yard because you don't get so many of the 'whitley' element there!!!Blush and if you lived in reading you are probably aware of what i mean!

lexiemum · 18/06/2006 17:23

maybe thats why we both moved away!

vickiyumyum · 18/06/2006 18:07

i moved out of whitley! but unfortunatley i came back to reading after living in york for a few years, not sure why i came back but to be honest reading isn't that bad, there are some nice areas. (i live in earley now lexiesmum, different house to when you came to collect the leappad) its a shame the schools are so bad in reading, thats why we moved to earley so that the children can go to better schools, probably would have been cheaper to send them to private school!

lexiemum · 18/06/2006 18:47

vyy - yep i know you moved on to the good side - maybe i said wrong - was referring to both you and i moving on rather than staying put.

no i'd have the house down your new road rather than years at leighton park any day.

nannyjo · 18/06/2006 19:23

i do know what you mean VYY. I'm a readng girl, was born and bred there but i have to say it's not as good as i remember it tho. Never did like whitley and still don't Shock sorry if i offend anyone with that but thats just my opinion Smile

Thanks, i think i might give the mad house a go, it'll make me feel at home aswell if it's called mad house Grin

vickiyumyum · 19/06/2006 09:25

no offence taken - i went ot reading girls school (haha southlands for all of you who know reading will know what i mean) and it was a school that i certainly wouldn't send my daughter too!

the mad house is good nanyjo, especially if you can go in the day, i'm sure you'll have fun!

lexiemum - you were more sensible than me you moved away and haven't come back! (except to visit of course)

stet18 · 04/07/2006 13:22

I also moved to Mortimer recently. Am in Mortimer Hill development. My youngest is 10mth old boy. Would be happyt to meet up with anyone from the same area for coffee - sorry definately a coffee drinker lol.
