Any new thirtysomething central London mums?

I am a new mum and new to London. Are there any mother and baby groups out there? It would be great to hear from some people and chit chat. It's just my son Flynn and I during the day while my husband is at school so it can get pretty dull for me at times.

Where are you originally from? London is a big place and can feel very unwelcoming when you first arrive.

Which bit of London are you in? (Which borough?) There are plenty of mum activities out there, whether or not you can find people through Mumsnet.

Netmums (which isn't a chat site) has some good local information for many areas.

I am from Washington, DC. But I use to live in Chester several years ago.

NotQuiteCockney,
I live in the west end on the border of Marylebone and Mayfair. Let's just say Selfridges is my neighbor.

Thanks for the advice. I can't wait to get out of the house with Flynn and meet some people.

How old is Flynn?

You might be able to find some NCT mother and baby groups around there?

spunky34 · 23/10/2005 22:06

Flynn is 13 weeks old. What is NCT?

Sorry, NCT is the National Childbirth Trust. They lobby etc for better births for women. They're in favour of breastfeeding etc etc. Their groups are a very good way to meet local mums.

Hmm, I should know how to find your local branch, but my brain isn't working today. I suspect if you did a websearch for your borough (Westminster? It'll be on all the street signs, if you don't know) and NCT, you might find out.

Otherwise, you could poke around the NCT website .

Netmums is organised by borough, too. They're here . I don't find that many mum + baby groups around, it's mostly mum + toddler stuff. Other than NCT things, and breastfeeding support and so on. Oh, and baby yoga and baby massage courses, those are good for social stuff.

princesspeahead · 23/10/2005 22:20

baby massage classes at the life centre in notting hill on wed and friday mornings would be a good way to meet people with babies similar ages to yours, and also the massage is fun to learn, they love it. see the lifecentre.com. the centre is a great place (very groovy) that also does postnatal pilates and stuff in case you are interested.

there are masses of things to do when Flynn is a little older - baby swimming, music & movement groups like Crechendo etc... but at this age I think massage and some NCT coffee mornings might be best. And people who are at those things will very quickly tell you what else is going on in the area for babies....

good luck!

princesspeahead · 23/10/2005 22:25

for swimming look at swimmingnature.co.uk and aquababies - they both do classes in central london. from about 5/6 months though, and they aren't so social because you are all in a pool and then wrestling with small wet squirmy things in a changing room.... but still quite fun!

NotQuiteCockney & princesspeahead,

Thank you so much for all the information! I feel so much better knowing what is out there so I can get out with little Flynn.
