Lunch in London pre-Christmas?

Marina · 07/09/2001 08:14

Marina, Bells and Tigermoth are planning to meet up for lunch one Saturday in December. We're going to Vinopolis on the South Bank, near London Bridge station. The food and atmosphere are great there and although it is very child-friendly we are planning to leave any mobile offspring at home.
We'd love other Mumsnet members to join us. We're giving lots of notice in the hope that members not based in London might be able organise a day trip if they have plenty of warning.
Please e-mail me if you're interested: Marina

OK, it looks like it's going to be 1st December at Vinopolis.
I will mail everyone who mailed me at home to check if they are still up for it, but could people who replied to this thread either confirm here or mail me [email protected] (links to e-mail addresses don't seem to work at the minute) so that I can start to put together a rough figure for booking the restaurant. And it's not too late for anyone else who wants to come along - if everyone is still interested we are going to be about 25 strong. There will be areas for the Antenatal Club, the Breastfeeding Mums and the Party Animals. Remember to leave anything that can move under its own steam and manage solids at home, and that includes partners.

25 - wow!. Count me in still Marina. New baby will probably only be a couple of weeks old but I wouldn't want to miss it....

Tigermoth · 01/10/2001 11:19

Great! Now that's something to brighten Monday back at work after my holiday.

Wornout · 01/10/2001 13:08

Marina,
This is the 1st time that I have seen this link! What a shame I am having my 2nd Ds Christened the next day which will also be a joint 3rd B-day party for 1st Ds, a real shame as would have loved to have come, especially as I could have a had a good game of guess who's who! Any other time (if you are still all talking) I would love to come along.

Really, REALLY sorry won't be able to come. Please keep me posted if you have any more get togethers, as I'll try my bestest to come another time... wonder if "Chairmum" will come... I have visions of a rather matronly (stern, but kind) lady letting her hair down!
(Sorry chairmum, you're probably a size 8, 10 years younger than me, and are dressed from head to toe in Prada/Gucci/Nicole Farhi!!)
Will someone be there to take photos? We can all then guess the nickname!

Chairmum · 01/10/2001 22:38

ROFL, Fms!!! I'm a generous size 12 these days, wear my latest discovery, Adsa jeans for 9 quid, had a 40 something birthday last week, let my girls get away with murder and am quite often horrid to the dog! Not sure about the matronly bit. That sounds more like my mum but I'm off to check in the mirror anyway. :-o

And I won't be coming for lunch unless someone wants to pay for an airticket from Scotland!

Sid · 02/10/2001 09:41

I'd love to come, but from Bristol don't think I could justify it on a Saturday before Christmas - also slightly scared that it would inhibit me on this message board afterwards. Do those of us not going get a full report afterwards eg. whether you all got on, whether you maintained full anonymity or all guessed who the others were?

Marina · 02/10/2001 10:45

Sorry Sid, but don't you think it would inhibit those of us going to the lunch if we had to report back to you lot afterwards
I'm just booking the restaurant - it will be entirely up to people whether they want to reveal their nickname either to me beforehand or to anyone else there on the day. I'm not planning any formal report back to the boards, I can assure you. Don't know if that allays your worries...

IDismyname · 02/10/2001 20:45

Oh Chairmum... will we EVER get a glipse of you...?!

IDismyname · 02/10/2001 20:46

Sorry... a GLIMPSE of you!!

Chairmum · 02/10/2001 21:23

Well, you could have a whip-round for that airfare, Fms! :-))))

Sid · 03/10/2001 08:14

I understand, Marina, I wouldn't want you all to be inhibited! (but oh to be a fly on the wall!) Hope you all have a lovely time.

Rhiannon · 03/10/2001 10:45

I would like to come but I'm M25 north bit of a trek south of the river. I'll be thinking of you.
Have a great time. R.

Tigermoth · 03/10/2001 11:01

Rhiannon, come on now! Vineapolis is only just south of the river. Right near London Bridge station. I drive to work 'up north', from SE London on the M25. They'll be less traffic on a Saturday as well.

You can't miss this.....

Marina · 03/10/2001 14:08

I'm just going to say Thameslink to you Rhiannon...and Vinopolis is about 25 yards south of the Thames, honest. Did your barn dance go off OK in the end by the way?

OP posts:
Cam · 03/10/2001 14:10

Sid, Bristol to London is easy - I'm going from the South Coast. Luckily I can get a train to London Bridge. Poor excuse there.

Rhiannon · 03/10/2001 14:16

Tigermoth and Marina, no Barn Dance was cancelled, nightmare that cost the NCT £110.00 in losses.

Tell me what station the restaurant is near please. I'm such a wally when it comes to trains. Suppose I could come down the M11? Yes/No??? I am sure I could come if I tried. I'll have to check if Arsenal are at home that day, if they are I'm doomed as DH will be there.

Pupuce · 03/10/2001 14:30

Train station is London Bridge (same for tube)...

Marina · 03/10/2001 15:09

Rhiannon, v. sorry about your barn dance. Pupuce is right, London Bridge is very close to Vinopolis. Or if it was better for you, come in to King's Cross on the overground and change onto Thameslink, or onto the Northern line (depends on how you feel about tube travel). You could come down the M11 and into the City, where it is easy (but not always that cheap) to park on the street on Saturdays, and then get a tube to London Bridge.

OP posts:
Tigermoth · 03/10/2001 15:15

Rhiannon, I too say Thameslink, but should you want to drive, here's the route that I, personally, would take. I know the London/Cambridge stretch of the M11 quite well - used to use it lots. Hasn't the London bit, where it joins the A406, been improved - it's so much quicker now.

Get onto the M11. Do NOT turn off at Junction 27, where it joins the M25, this will take you miles out of your way.

Stay on the M11 until you hit the A406 - the good old North Circular. It is well signposted. You want to head East.

You are heading towards the Millenium Dome and the Blackwall Tunnel (not to be confused, ever, ever, ever, with the Dartford Crossing). Follow the signs to the Millenium Dome - by now there should be lots of them. You will find ample parking right next to the Dome and its high tech tube station. It costs £4.00 for a days parking. Then hop on a train - they run every few minutes, and in less than 10 minutes you will be at London Bridge station.

As it happens, I may be heading up north on the M11 this weekend. On my way back, I'll check that Millenium Dome signs are still up.

If you are hell bent on driving right up to Vinopolis, I can give you an alternative, but pretty long, route.

Last orders please! Anyone interested in coming to lunch on Saturday 1st December in London at Vinopolis (near London Bridge) and who has not already mailed me, now is your chance to sign up. About 12 of us so far confirmed, anyone else welcome. We're not bringing children (apart from babies, of which there will be a few) or partners.
Curious? Gregarious? Prepared to travel almost anywhere in search of a party? All welcome.
I still can't get my e-mail address properly set up here, but if you scroll down to the bottom of this thread, you can click and mail me direct from my first message.
