Media request: have you banned Peppa Pig?

Hi there,

We've received the following media request.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I am writing up a piece for the Mirror about the 'dark side' of Peppa Pig. It's exploring whether the show is actually 'bad' for children, given it has been accused of 'fat shaming (daddy pig), the fact he is generally depicted as useless with Mummy Pig having to fix everything (usually without thanks/acknowledgement). Also Peppa herself being rude, mean to her brother etc.

It would be great to chat to some parents who have banned the show for their children, along with any parents who don't think it's too bad. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] by Friday 10th if you'd like to share your view.

Oh my god, come on!! Demonising peppa pig when the world is in its sorriest state and kids are left on tablets watching YouTube aged 5!!! Peppa pig taught my kids tons and myself, dh and dm loved it too!

Whatever next - how silly! DC and I love Peppa. Daddy Pig isn’t useless- he may not be great at DYI he’s a wonderful dad!

My granddaughter loves Peppa pig! Leave it alone.

You're about 5 years or more out of date - the fat shaming of daddy stopped a few seasons in and Peppa is much nicer now. She's a great big sister to Evie and George!

She is a bit sassy/fiery hence her name Peppa like Pepper - the creators have mentioned they intentionally wanted her a bit cheeky to reflect real kids.

There's multiple episodes Mummy does things that go wrong and Daddy has to rescue her - eg she gets trapped in the blackberry bush and daddy rescues her (he even says something like 'that sort of thing usually happens to me!'), mummy skiis backwards down a mountain etc

Daddy pig is definitely a bumbling well intentioned fool archetype but Mummy also has flaws as do many of the wider characters. And actually it's Miss Rabbit who is always to the rescue !!!

Can't believe I could write a phd thesis on Peppa.

There's

  • lesbian couple
  • Deaf representation (george)
  • Daddy baby wears Evie
  • Different cultures and languages (Australia, Italy, french)
  • Single parent representation
  • Childless miss rabbit and her sahm sister with 4 kids swap places for a day and both recognise they work just as hard as each other
  • Disability/non ambulatory rep with Mandy mouse, wheelchair user.

I have to say that my kids learned about random stuff from Peppa that they wouldn't otherwise have been exposed to. Especially from the most annoying Peppa Pig Tales, they go to factories and all sorts.

The older episodes of Peppa pig have her being quite a little brat with not very manners but I’ve noticed ( it’s much loved in this house and I wouldn’t win the battle to ban it) that she is much more sweet, helpful kind and good mannered in the more recent years.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 10/07/2026 05:10

No, I never banned Peppa Pig.

What's wrong with depicting naughtiness anyway? Reading My Naughty Little Sister books didn't make me steal the trifle at a party, if anything the opposite, I was horrified by the naughtiness!
