15yo son wants to watch whatever he wants

My 15 year old son wants to be able to watch whatever he wants, regardless of the BBFC rating and what I personally believe. He believes he is mature enough to handle what he sees, and disagrees strongly when I say he can’t watch something, saying it’s fine and that most pre-2000 movies need to be rerated due to their ageing and the ratings being outdated and should be lowered when compared to modern Hollywood movies.
What should I say to him and should I let him watch what he wants?

Well, who’s the adult and parent here?

There’s your answer.

DD is 15. She’s not allowed to watch 18s. The end.

If you feel strongly then just tell him no. You are the parent, he is the child he may complain buts that's the bottom line.

Alternatively watch it first and form your own view.

Would parental controls stop 18 or 21 films being aired on your tv.

He’s 15 and presumably has access to the internet and much worse things so I don’t think I could get worked up about this.
if he doesnt have access to the internet then he’s already going without a phone and social media and most of the things his friends have, and again I couldn’t get worked up about this, I’d just let him have this small win. Or at least discuss allowing some movies, like is it an 18 for violence or sex or language, are you against them all, surely some movies with a discussion about them and the themes you dislike, could be ok and maybe even educational.

but it doesn’t matter what I think or what he says; You’re his parent.

I'm pretty relaxed. -films like die hard were 18 when they came out and are now 15.

They've probably seen worse at school with Reddit 50/50, insta reels etc.

We all watched Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday 13th at around 11 when parents were out before they actually asked for ID in video stores
