Hi there,

We've received the following media request.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I’m working on a story about the Tik Tok black out challenge and I’m looking for a family from Yorkshire that has a child that has done this. We want to highlight it on BBC Look North and BBC News online. If you've been affected, please contact Nathan on [email protected]

There has never been a blackout challenge or remotely viral "blackout" trend on Tiktok.

It's an urban legend that mainstream media love to use to bash social media instead of poor parenting. Any cases of this happening is due to real-life peer to peer pressure rather than anyone actually finding out solely through Tiktok. In the 90s there were also fainting trends or methods to make yourself pass out that was spread through schools and word of mouth. In this form, it's been around forever.

Any families that do come forward are seeking fame and attention, and fit perfectly into the stereotype of bad parenting that leads their children to make poor decisions like these.
