Retraining as lawyer or OT at 52

I’m 52 and looking to retrain in law or OT. I’m a pharmacist and teacher. I don’t ever want to retire. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Thanks

are you a collector of professional qualifications?

Law would be a terrible choice, there are regular threads on here from people thinking of retraining into law and being told how awful an idea it is. Expensive to qualify, and extremely competitive to get work.

Volunteer at a Citizens Advice Bureau and work your way up to a paid post. Get to advise on law without the commercial pressure with ongoing training provided. Really interesting and rewarding work.

@Xandere what draws you to these two rather dissimilar professions?

As a pharmacist surely you can get locum work on a regular basis? DH used to have regular bookings plus phone calls for emergencies. If you are a teacher you could become a teacher and continue as long as you can get students. No one wants to take on a newly qualified lawyer in their fifties. Have you thought of simply doing another degree with the OU for fun?

Law would be pointless. Even if you managed to get a training contract by the time you are actually making decent money you will be close to retirement age.
