And if you do, is your work related to it? I’m thinking of going to study and really want to work with children, I’ve seen a childhood studies degree but not sure what kind of career I could get with it.

thanks in advance!x

I have - I'm a teaching assistant currently with Adults in the Lifelong Learning sector. It's a route to many things, although for some you would need another qualification on top, like a social work degree or a PGCE.

You don’t need a degree to work with kids.

There are different vocational qualifications for different types of work, most are done on the job.
eg nurseries, children’s care homes, secure units, youth work, youth justice, play workers, CAMHS workers/child psychologists

Degree roles would be jobs like social workers, educational psychologists teachers, paediatricians nursing, academic researchers into children/childhood.

or what about becoming a foster carer?

@estellacandanceI would love to become a foster carer but my husband doesn’t want to :( maybe one day once my own kids are older

I have a sociology BSc and work in HR in a charity. Very much linked for me. My friend with a degree in education and childhood studies is a social worker.

I would say if you want to do a degree do it because you love the subject and genuinely want to spend 3 years learning it at a high level, because careers can go in so many directions.

I started Childhood Studies this year with the OU. So far I have absolutely loved it. I’m doing it to give me more expertise in my current job (pastoral school staff) and to hopefully progress within the same area.

id say go for it, I wish I had started sooner

I have a Level 4 in social sciences, but didn't progress with it. I'm currently completing an open degree with the OU and love it so far. Can pick and mix modules that interest me 🙂 I'm currently working in FE but do have my Teaching Assistant certificate also for this.

Yes....my social work degree is a BSc not BA unlike other colleagues of mine. Ive no idea what made it a BSc and not a BA though.
