I know this time last year there were a couple of posts from people considering this. I’d love to hear how you’re getting on. I’m about to register. I’m 53 and have always regretted not completing my degree ( not English Literature). I now have the opportunity to start again.

I finished mine 8 years ago so not a current student, but I loved it. There were times when it was a slog (when it clashed with other responsibilities/stressful times) but I'm so pleased that I did it.

I got my BA in literature with the OU more than twenty years ago and have since completed my master's with a brick university. I'm now in my writing up year for my PhD, with the same brick uni. Postgraduate departments at other universities like OU students because we tend to be self-starters and you really need that at PG level.

Obviously I don't know what the OU literature curriculum is like now, but my degree is made up of modules on Shakespeare, the 19thc novel, modern and modernist novels, poetry, the literature of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment and tons of interdisciplinary stuff on philosophy, history, art history and music. It's a banquet and although it wasn't all plain sailing, I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Thank you both for your replies. I’ve done a few courses with the Oxford department of continuing education which inspired me to consider the OU. It’s nice to hear about your experiences and I’m looking forward to the first two modules which allow wide introductory exploration of the humanities.

The interdisciplinary start is great - it changed the way I look at art forever.
