I honestly feel like I'm pulling teeth trying to get any of it done. 😱😭 It's a PowerPoint presentation on public health.

I'm finding it hard deciding what to put in the main slide and what to put in the notes that are for me to read out (I'll be recording my voice for each slide rather than presenting it face to face).

I'm finding it hard to plan layouts, choose images, decide what to include and what not, and just generally struggling to get cracking with it.

Does anyone have any help or advice?

Ask chat GPT for a plan

Toddlerteaplease · 30/04/2025 12:44

can you speak to previous cohorts and get ideas? I’m doing a top up degree, at the minute and I’ve had the most help from colleagues who have already done the same programme. The university has also really spoon fed us. Look at the learning outcomes and make sure you tick up every single one.

Ask chat GPT for a plan

This!!

TrojanCat · 30/04/2025 12:48

I was just about to say prompt Chat GPT as well - All of my presentations are sorted in ten minutes nowadays! 😄

It can be helpful to begin in the middle or at the end, rather than working from start to finish IYKWIM , just get your best (or any) idea down and spread out from there ...

Have you tried using Microsoft sway? It's like a more professional looking PowerPoint, still used for presentations etc, but has really useful templates that will help you with structure and also layout. The first time you use it, it guides you through what information should go where.
It looks great when you are finished as well.
I adored PowerPoint. I used it for everything, as I struggled getting word to do decent layouts. But Sway is everything i need now for presenting proposals, plans etc.

Lookuptotheskies · 30/04/2025 13:17

Not heard of sway, I'll have a look. It's not that I hate the programme of PowerPoint so much though so I'll probably stick with what I know. Handy to know about it though as another option.

I have a loose plan eg order of slides and what each slide will have as it's title.

I do have the marking criteria. Will re-read that in a bit.

I don't know anyone who has already done it. It's an access course I'm studying.

I have never had chatgpt for anything, is that okay to do for study stuff?

I'm just tearing my hair out. It's feeling such a challenge. I'd much rather write an assignment and that's saying something!

Put key details or very important points on the slides, any figures or statistics etc, and then elaborate in the speaking part. You definitely don't want to rely on them having to read long sentences from slides. The best Powerpoints are usually more bullet point style in my opinion. Maybe you could look on Google to try and find examples of presentations on similar themes to get more of an idea on structure and style.

If it were me, I'd prepare the speaking part first, split up into defined sections (which will be your slides later) and then design the slides based on that, using them to make the points you make orally clearer or to highlight specific aspect with graphs or images or figures.

You need to use Chat GPT! Tell it the subject matter, ask it for an outline of a PPT… if you have a paid version it will generate the whole presentation for you. If you don’t have the paid version, take the outline it gives you and put it into Gamma AI… job done!

Aligirlbear · 30/04/2025 17:52

Be careful with over reliance on Chat GPT if the presentation is for educational purposes - don’t fall into the trap of plagerism etc. which will cost you marks or worse as educational establishments take this ( particularly reliance on Chat GPT) very seriously Good to use for an outline but make sure you use your own words / phrases .

FusionChefGeoff · 30/04/2025 17:55

Napkin is another great AI tool where you effectively paste your notes / what you want to say in and it will give you an infographic type slide design to illustrate your point

MastieMum · 30/04/2025 17:59

Be careful with using AI - you need to check the university regulations as it may be forbidden for assessed work. PowerPoint has the Designer function which may be allowed, and it suggests slide designs.

BrightLightTonight · 30/04/2025 18:04

Standard presentation rules.
First tell them what you are going to cover
Second tell them the info
Third tell them what you have told them.

Plan out the middle part first. What is the criteria, what are the findings, what are the results. The rest should just fall into place.

Don’t worry about layouts etc, until you have the facts down

SwedishEdith · 30/04/2025 18:13

I love a PowerPoint but think some of ChatGPT's suggestions for graphics are poor. Do you use the Design option in ppt? It's good for suggesting layouts sometimes. But I often Google 'topic I'm making a slide about' and search Images. If I find a layout and/or colour scheme I like, I try and copy that. But I love playing with Shapes to make my layouts.
