Hoping another recent student will know this!
Am I still eligible for the £5k maintenance grant (and parental grant of 2K) if I am not taking out a student loan?
Have read the blurb but want to double check!
🙏

Bumping for you.

I am doing an MSc from September and I dont believe I am eligible for an MSc like ai was for my BSc.

oh that’s interesting! My Bsc was in psychology years ago and I haven’t previously claimed the LSF. I hope I am!!

You can contact them and ask but I think the answer is yes, you need to be eligible for the student loan for the Learning Fund.

LIZS · 29/03/2025 11:44

Eligibility also depends where you are resident and where you plan to study.

UsernameChange1675 · 04/04/2025 11:03

Yes, you can apply for a zero loan

TheRoomWhereItHappened · 04/04/2025 11:09

You’d need to apply for a loan and ask for no money as they use that to prove your eligibility for the LSF. You can’t register for the LSF without student finance letter each year

casiopeia · 27/05/2025 18:04

Yes, both were fairly easily awarded.

From my recent experience, no need to apply for the zero loan. You need to:

  • Fit the eligibility criteria for the student loan even if you are not applying for one (e.g. be a UK citizen, have lived in the country for x amount years)
  • Write a justification for not taking out a student loan (e.g., mature student, have enough savings.) In my case, a simple statement was enough, no further proof of finances etc needed.

@UpUpUpU MSc SLT is one of the exception, from the loan and funding POV it is considered for the funding in the same way as a BSc would.

I’ve looked into it and can only see it for pre reg courses. I am already registered so don’t think I can get it
