Hoping another recent student will know this!
Am I still eligible for the £5k maintenance grant (and parental grant of 2K) if I am not taking out a student loan?
Have read the blurb but want to double check!

I am doing an MSc from September and I dont believe I am eligible for an MSc like ai was for my BSc.

oh that’s interesting! My Bsc was in psychology years ago and I haven’t previously claimed the LSF. I hope I am!!

You can contact them and ask but I think the answer is yes, you need to be eligible for the student loan for the Learning Fund.

Eligibility also depends where you are resident and where you plan to study.

You’d need to apply for a loan and ask for no money as they use that to prove your eligibility for the LSF. You can’t register for the LSF without student finance letter each year

Yes, both were fairly easily awarded.

From my recent experience, no need to apply for the zero loan. You need to:

  • Fit the eligibility criteria for the student loan even if you are not applying for one (e.g. be a UK citizen, have lived in the country for x amount years)
  • Write a justification for not taking out a student loan (e.g., mature student, have enough savings.) In my case, a simple statement was enough, no further proof of finances etc needed.

@UpUpUpU MSc SLT is one of the exception, from the loan and funding POV it is considered for the funding in the same way as a BSc would.

I’ve looked into it and can only see it for pre reg courses. I am already registered so don’t think I can get it
