So I'm now facing my second settlement agreement within a year. It's utterly humiliating and while both companies did announce cuts a month before and swore it was nothing to do with my performance (I won employee awards in both roles), I'm taking it personally - my passion and motivation definitely dipped (both times it has happened after winter where I suffer with SAD).
I have been a software developer for 7 years and honestly I don't have the passion anymore to keep up with the latest trends, do side projects - I want more human interaction but I'm stuck for ideas on how to apply for lateral moves. As you can tell from this post, my writing skills are abysmal and I'm struggling to think of ideas.
My dream career (I think!) is radiography (I applied for an access course last year, got in, then I said no because I had already started the new job by then and got the fear of the big pay cut) or something related to healthcare/getting more folk active etc. I'd also happily do accountancy.
What I want to do is apply for entry level jobs, however, I feel I'm just going to get rejected due to being 'overqualified'. Would it be mental to intentionally just volunteer for 6 months? (I've got 3 months garden leave which starts from Friday). I'd happily do the AAT at the same time or redo my highers (I'm scottish and they have expired). I'm going to help out active schools (getting primary school and secondary school children more active) and another community project initially with their food pantry but once I've settled, established relationships, will suggest some wellbeing activities.
TLDR: Will a career break lead to me being unemployed for the rest of my life?
