Nursing or am I mad?

Hi, I am in my mid 50’s and I have left my corporate role after many years. I am currently on a sabbatical and was considering what I will do next. I am really drawn to nursing and studying to become a nurse. Am I mad?
Has anyone else done this and what was your experience?

I would absolutely love to train as a nurse. My biggest regret since I was 17. 50 soon and not sure I could do it now.

You’re mad

Whenever I've heard about nursing I've read that it's a very toxic environment, with a lot of bullying and bitching. Nurses going in a huff with new staff just because they said 'it's quiet today'

I’m a nurse. It’s not toxic, it’s a brilliant job.

I’d like to hope as I’m a more mature student and have ran teams of multiple sizes and ages that I can hopefully be able to stand up for myself whilst doing a good job.

Been there, done that, got the bad back. Years of being treated as a peg to fill a hole and being asked to do more with less until you wake up in the night afraid you’ve missed something that will harm someone. But you do you

Yup, I will do. Sorry it didn’t work out for you.

I'm 50 and started my nursing degree in January of this year. I've worked in the NHS since 2017 so I have seen all sides of it. It's still not put me off "going for it" so don't ever feel that you're too old. Don't have a life or regrets x

I work in an allied profession and trained at 40 something. I work in a team with nurses and love my job. It is so meaningful and worthwhile. I would recommend doing it!! There are many fields and doors open to you once qualified.
