A Level Maths and Apprenticeship at 42 - Help please!

Hi - hoping for some help and advice. At the age of 42 I have decided that I want to take a change of direction with my career (or lack of!).

I am currently working in a bookkeeping and admin position but have seen a degree apprenticeship advertised locally for Cost Estimating. It looks really interesting to me and I would really like to apply however the entry requirement specifies A Level Maths. I have an A* in GCSE maths but took Geography, English and Economics for A Level and also have an AAT Accounting qualification.

I know that I can sign up to take my A Level Maths through an online course but obviously I did my GCSE Maths many years ago and I hear that A Level Maths is significantly more difficult than GCSE so would like to have an idea of whether it is something that I will able to pick up now and whether it is something I am going to be able to do alongside my full time work. Also whether it is something that I may be able to fast track as the apprenticeship starts in September next year.

I thought that if I bought some text books then they might give me an idea of my capacity to pick things up but I am struggling to work out the components of the course and also which exam board I should be looking at.

Any advice would be greatly received - whether to do with the Maths A Level, recommending resources, apprenticeships as a mature student, general advice! Many thanks in advance.

I would definitely contact them first, if you have economics and AAT level 3 that may be considered the equivalent, especially given your work experience in finance, whereas for a school leaver the A-level maths would be their route in.

Thank you for replying. That's promising that you think that I may be considered without the A level Maths. I emailed them yesterday to see if my current qualifications would be suitable and I haven't heard back yet - but will keep my fingers crossed and chase them up later in the week. Considering that they would have to pay me more than a school leaver I figured they would be even less likely to overlook my lack of A level but hopefully not!

Just bumping this thread as I have heard back and the A Level Maths is a definite requirement. Was hoping to hear from anyone who has done A Level Maths online as a mature student.
