Retraining in my 30's...what to do?

I'm 37 years old. I have a business degree and spent most of my working life in marketing and event management.

For multiple reasons I don't want to go back into events when my youngest starts school next year (when I'll be almost 39). Jobs have often involved unsociable hours and either national or international travel. Both of which I'm ready for a break from. However I like the organisation and working with people elements of the job.

So I'm in the position of considering a career change. I have some money I could use to retrain, but I have no idea what in! I don't want to teach or nurse (I'd be awful at either!). A few friends are studying coding at the moment which seems to have nice perks (WFH, flexible hours) but they're quite individual career paths (rather than working in a team) so not sure that's the one for me.

I've had a part time photography business for the last 15 years, but don't think that has the legs to get me a robust income/pension for the next 30+ years.

Bit stuck on which direction to go. Apparently I'm an ESTJ-T, if that helps. The t means I do better with good people around me, which is definitely accurate.

You obviously have a strong background. Rather than flailing about on your own - and to make the best of your skills - I’d suggest paying for the best professional careers advice you can find. (Your mentioning of teaching and nursing as pretty much the only careers in existence suggests you could do with some help to simply discover ‘what’s out there’.)

If there was a way to turn your photography business into a financially secure option - would you want to do that?
