AAT level 2 providers

Hi ladies

I have been looking into studying with AAT - level 2 and then progressing to level 3.

i have recently become a single mum and I need to get my career back on track. I’ve been stay at home and taken a huge step back from any type of career I previously had so now looking to better myself and provide for my LO.

I wanted to start with AAT level 2 as haven’t really studied for a long time and my job prior to having DD was pretty mundane. I think jumping into level 3 will be a mistake as some people have warned me it gets difficult especially if you don’t have the basics, which I don’t.

I’ve been looking at doing the online / distance learning with BPP.

I would go through my local college part time but with working, the college only offers 3 days a week 10-2 on the days I’m working, so that’s just not feasible. Even if I swapped my working days around I still won’t be able to arrange the child care so online / distance works best for me.

has anyone used BPP before? Are they good, any problems etc?

also looked at Kaplan but it says I would need to arrange assessments myself - seemed off putting as not sure where I’d start with that?

also has anyone studied level 2 and been able to find a role in the industry of accounts / finance whilst then studying level 3?

I will speak to AAT directly but wanted some independent advice first as my concern is that AAT are going to push me to join with them given they are selling services at the end of the day.

TIA x

My recommendation is always to find a relevant entry level job first and then do the exams (ideally with the employer paying which is how accountancy training usually works).

So so so many people do the AAT exams without any experience and then can't get a job. Please don't spend money on the exams without a job or work experience to get your foot in the door.

BPP are perfectly fine, Kaplan are pretty similar but a slightly cheaper version of BPP (hence the more self service approach). But please find a relevant job first.

Agree with PP. I'd also say many companies will pay for you to study AAT.
I'd look at local accountancy practices and see if they would be interested in you as a trainee.
