Can anyone give me advice? Course with Learning curve

I have been enrolled on health and social care level 3 with learning curve. I'm struggling to complete my learning by the due dates. This is because I work full time in a care home I work night shifts. I'm behind with my learning I should get 6 hours off the job training. Ive tried everything to get this time, however it's a very busy home with agency staff or seniors who are not covering for me and even if they did I need a day off sometimes. I'm working on the learning every spare minute I have. I cant get ahead with it. My tutor has said there are consequences to not getting this work completed on time when I have asked for extra time, I have now been swapped to a new tutor hopefully get to speak to her soon. I feel like I'm drowning in work. Just to add I have 7 children some are grown up but I still need to see and spend time with them I also have 6 grandchildren. I also have depression and anxiety and I take medication for this. Does anyone have any advice for me please?

I hadn't heard of Learning Curve so I'm largely replying to bump your post.

Are you doing this or similar? https://www.learningcurvegroup.co.uk/courses/level-3-access-to-higher-education-diploma-health-and-social-care/

What's the arrangement? That doesn't quite sound like an apprenticeship arrangement in terms of hours but is it contractual?

Depending on the arrangement, I think you need to be firmer about holding them to that if possible.

I'm working on the learning every spare minute I have. I cant get ahead with it.

Can't get ahead in what way? Are you getting stuck with content? Or just workload?

Do you need study skills support and can they provide that? Or recommend something?

My tutor has said there are consequences to not getting this work completed on time when I have asked for extra time

There are problems with extra time - if there is an overall deadline for final assessment or course completion then giving you extensions with earlier assessments just means you fall behind with the next lot and end up under even more pressure for the final assessment which usually has the most weighting. That doesn't really help you.

It may also have funding implications.

Sometimes you might need to agree that you just submit enough to pass or stay enrolled rather than trying to produce amazing work and falling further behind. That's a discussion for your next tutor about how to prioritise and move forward.

Just to add I have 7 children some are grown up but I still need to see and spend time with them I also have 6 grandchildren.

Of course, but if we're talking about a one year (?) commitment then it's about time management and accepting that you can't do everything you would have done in a normal year (including the same amount of free time) and also commit the hours this course needs.

What's your strategy at the moment? Eg do you have a study routine? It might help to have a "little and often" routine built into every day so it becomes a habit.

I also have depression and anxiety and I take medication for this

Does your current provider have mental health support services for its students? Eg guides and tips for studying with depression and anxiety? Are you getting bogged down because you're being a perfectionist or getting overwhelmed and procrastinating?

It's definitely work load. My other tutor said that my grammar and spelling isn't good enough so I'm getting bogged down writing the little essays for each answer. I have to type them into gramerly then I have to correct them and type them again into the answers and submit. I have 6 questions which have 6 parts to each due in on the 14th of May its not going to get done because im on night shift. I'm screwed I think. I spend all my days off 4 each week doing this work unless I have nightshift as I have to sleep. I'm desperate I dont know what to do. Should I just type what I can into the boxes and submit? The course is 18 months

Be careful. Do not enrol on any courses given by them. They are irresponsible and not professional. They canceled my course in the middle of my assessments because some of them forgot to verify me correctly. Now They avoid my complaints and appeals Keep away from them. This is waste of your time to enrol on any courses with them.

Is Learning Curve your actual Learning Provider? Lots of LPs use Learning Curve course materials for HSC courses. Speak to your tutor. They may allow you to complete work orally rather than writing if you have literacy needs.

Is this an Apprenticeship? Your employer has a contractual requirement to give you equivalence of 6 hours OTJH per week however this isn't all for completing coursework as it can also involve shadowing/CPD etc.
If you feel that you can't speak to your Tutor then contact the IQA who monitors the quality of that Tutor. This should be a named person, ring the Head Office.
Apprenticeships are now a lot more academic than the old NVQ and require a lot more writing which has to be up to the level of the Standard you are doing. Your Tutor should support you with this, or have an English specialist who can give further support.
Simply put, speak up!
