Has anyone done a psychology conversion course & obtained relevant employment/training afterwards?

I'm interested in doing an online, part-time psychology MSc conversion course (BPS accredited). This would then make me eligible to apply for NHS-funded training in psychological therapies (I'm NOT interested in the psychology doctorate).

I'm in Scotland and there are a couple of training opportunities below psychologist level that qualify you to practice as a therapist within specific areas.

I'm in my early 40s and have relevant(ish) experience that would hopefully bolster any applications to the psychological therapies training programmes.

But my main worry is that I'd be putting a lot of time, money and effort into a conversion course that won't qualify me for a specific role, and then that there's a huge amount of competition to get onto one of the psychological therapies training courses.

I suppose I just want to hear some success stories from conversion course graduates who have managed to gain relevant training/employment afterwards... Is there anybody out there?? :)

(PS. I have ruled out most other healthcare professions because I can't afford to take 4yrs out of work to retrain e.g. as an AHP - and there are no degree apprenticeships here. I am also not interested in training as a counsellor.)

I came on here to post something similar, although I'm interested in going into research or being an educational psychologist.

I haven’t personally but I’m currently on one of the courses you’ve mentioned and there a couple of people on it who have done a conversion course. However, there are rumours that there will be a shortage of jobs after graduating due to the cuts to NHS funding…

Thanks for the replies 😊

@GenevieveTrompke what experience did you have before doing the course, if you don't mind me asking?

Budget cuts are across the board though really, aren't they? I already work for the NHS and everything budget-wise is up in the air, lots of people on fixed-term contracts that aren't getting renewed etc

I was looking at official stats and the number of CAAP roles has increased over the last couple years. Doesn't mean to say it will continue to increase though I suppose.

Struggling to decide whether it's worth the gamble (and all the bloody essays and reports and exams... 🥴)
