Anyone in the same position? I'm trying to balance the following:

  • Working full time (thank god I'm self employed so can rejig working hours)
  • Retraining course two days a week
  • Volunteer role in my retraining field ~ 10 hours a week

I'm finding it hard going, luckily I don't have kids as imagine that would just be the straw to break the camels back

Hi I'm a bit similar, work full time, 2 older kids, and doing a hard uni course. It's tough. And I could be doing some work now but I don't want to.

Similar position. I'm working fulltime and doing a PhD while trying to manage house, shopping, dog, cats and two teenage kids. I am required to do a doctorate for my job. I wouldn't have chosen to do it otherwise, though if I were younger and doing it out of choice I'm sure I'd find it more rewarding. I'm sick at the moment so not doing any of the above. It's a bloody slog isn't it!

Similar position.

Full time job
Access course
Single parent

I am nearing the end but I’m knackered!

I think this time of year is particularly hard as so much on. 😕

ilovesushi · 12/12/2023 13:02

I've been off work sick for the last couple of weeks and just got confirmation that my deadline for my next assignment has been extended. I cannot tell you the relief I am feeling! I have to write a literature review and it feels too overwhelming to even start on.

Psyberbaby · 13/12/2023 08:02

Hi all, nice to hear from you!
Yes, this time of year is particularly hard. You feel like you should be winding down and getting ready to relax, but I've just been given a huge piece of work work to do before Christmas, I also have an assessment to hand in and have a volunteer work deadline to meet you, so not feeling very chilled at all. Luckily I just have to keep up the pace until February.

Originally I wanted to not work for a week over Christmas, but am beginning to think I might have to squeeze in some projects from a financial perspective, I might take a week off in Feb to compensate.
When is the light at the end of the tunnel for you all?

@Psyberbaby I finish in May!

Like you said, I was hoping to wind down for a bit over the Christmas break, I finish work next week but have a big assignment due 6th January so no rest for me really.

It will be worth it in the end, or so I keep saying…

ilovesushi · 13/12/2023 19:18

Was also hoping to have a break over Xmas but my assignments are due in early Jan. I am going to have to schedule myself very strictly. I have family staying so I'll rule those days out for studying.

End is nowhere in sight for me. I'm doing a doctorate. The first two years are taught then I'm on my own! Well I'll have a couple of supervisors. I'm one and a bit years in. I'd like to be done in two to three years.

Cantfindutrogestan · 14/12/2023 07:51

I finish in February hopefully if no resits 🫨🤞. I am just waiting for the university library to open this morning to try and get some work done.
Definitely worth it in the end...
