CELTA course to teach online or in the uk

I’m looking to move away from being a teaching assistant. As I’m 50, I don’t particularly want to retain to be a teacher, but as I have an English degree and I hugely enjoy tutoring, I thought the CELTA qualification might be worth doing.

A lot of CELTA work is now online. The pay isn’t great and you are competing against other tutors on online platforms - often from countries where they charge very little.
maybe consider specializing in something like dyslexia and training to tutor in that. A better hourly rate and likely very rewarding as well.

That’s a good thought, thanks!

It might be worth considering volunteering for your local ESOL service (usually run by the local authority or third sector) for some insight/experience before committing to a pricey CELTA course.

If you decide to make a career out of ESOL/TEFL, work might be quite piecemeal to start with, either in person or online. Can take a while to get a permanent post or regular hours.

Hi,
I did this and have built up to 5 days a week, ESOL, face to face.
Good idea to approach any local providers and sit in on a lesson/ volunteer first. Work is available in Summer schools, but hard going/ a bit of a rip off pay-wise. Hourly pay in a lot of places.
