Study fees

How can I study to become an occupational therapist without the course fees? I have tried to find apprenticeships but with no luck. It's over £9,000 per year to study and this is a 3 year course! Please, any advice would be so appreciated. I don't want to give up my chance to do this.

Student loans?

Cornishmumofone · 21/06/2023 21:21

There's an apprenticeship available in Swindon. Are you limited to a particular location?

RogersOrganismicProcess · 21/06/2023 21:23

Is it because you already have a degree? Would they let you do a masters?

womanundone · 23/06/2023 11:16

@Yarnysaura Thank you, I could go down that avenue. @Cornishmumofone I'm in London and have two children so it would have to be here but thanks for your reply. @RogersOrganismicProcess I am having to change career direction completely...I would rather go down the apprenticeship rd but I think get a job in a related field first to then be considered for the apprenticeship but I'm not 100% how it works as its all new to me. Thank you.

There's an apprencticeship at the Whittington hospital, if it wasn't so far from me, I'd apply.

Hoxipo · 29/06/2023 11:09

If not, you take out student loans, apply for the NHS funding and everything else available.

womanundone · 29/06/2023 11:38

Thank you both @Hoxipo and @WhatWillIWear . I'll check both out!

But essentially a student loan (undergraduate or postgraduate available) is the way most people fund education. If you already have a degree then a Government Postgraduate Loan is the best route, if you can find a suitable postgrad course. (I know nothing about OT, but academic institutions welcome mature postgrads and can be flexible about entry requirements.)

@WhatWillIWear Thank you so much for the link. I am starting from nothing, I ran my own business up until last July. This profession appeals to me in so many ways so I will try. Its just knowing where to start.
