i wanted to Anthropology when i was leaving school and going to Uni but my Mother talked me into nursing.

Fast forward 30 years i've left the shot show that was nursing in NHS and my brain is slowly shrivelling and i'm ready to study.

I would love to do Anthropology or Sociology but need it to be distance learning.

OU isn't really offering Anthropology. Wondered did anyone know of any other offerings. I'm drawing a blank.

already have!

Thank you both
My first degree was in Paeds Nirsing and i did a post grad in Teaching and assessing in Nursing.
I think i'd rather start at an under grad level as this is a totally new subject. @wasacasa i did see those and wondered if they were any good. Did you think the college was good then?

Forgive me for disagreeing with you, @abstractplantpot - but as I have myself walked straight into an MA decades after a first degree in a completely different subject, I suspect you’re underselling yourself to yourself. If you think about it you’ll recall that an undergrad degree simply teaches you how to begin to study independently. There’s rarely any highly specialist knowledge (more perhaps in the Sciences).

The only thing is that if you already have a postgraduate degree you won’t be eligible for a Government Postgraduate Loan.

I’ve never considered Anthropology - but the Continuing Ed department at Oxford seems generally thriving and excellent.

The Oxford Uni Cont Ed dept is excellent. As far as I know there isn’t an undergraduate degree course but they do provide the basis to go on a get a degree. Definitely worth an afternoons browsing on the website .

You'll find most of these masters courses operate as conversion courses for people coming from different disciplines - so definitely worth looking into.

I did an anthropology module as part of my first degree and loved it. In fact 25 years later I bought two of the books that were recommended reading during that module because I loved it. Go for it! Former nurse here too. I'm not sure I'll ever go back to nursing now.

I've returned to Uni after studying as an undergrad and a post grad in the 1990s. I was required to complete an access course to apply as my last qualifications were taken so long ago. I hope this is not the case for you but worth exploring!

Cornishmumofone · 15/04/2023 17:12

@MrsBarbaraLangerhans That's shocking! I last studied in 2000 and was accepted onto a PhD in the last couple of years without having to do an access course.
