Options for (re) learning french - distance learning

I learnt a fair amount of french at school and university (A at level and then an extra couple of modules in the first year of my degree) and then life and work got in the way and I have largely failed to practice it.
I really want to pick it back up now in a fairly consistent but not too pressured way (I have a busy job and 4 children) so max a few hours a week.

It needs to be distance learning as I am often housebound thanks to illness.

I'm mucking about on Duolingo for now, and I know I could read more french /listen to podcasts etc but I would quite love some kind of structured interactive learning/conversation group as well.

Not sure what is out there? OU is too expensive I think and probably a bit too much right now (but definitely a future dream)

Hi @SweetSakura I'm doing a French course with City University short courses. They follow the CEFR levels from A1 to B2, but you can pick where you think you fit best. Lessons are online, once a week for three 10-week terms a year. Or you can just do one term at a time. They're very good, nice mix of grammar, vocab, conversation, and culture. There are no exams or formal homework, so it's up to you how much time to give to it outside the lessons.

Ah that sounds perfect @HauntedKitchen ! I think it's exactly that balance of some structure and conversation but without too much pressure

Merci Smile

Alternatively Alliance Francaise might suit some people. Link is to the Manchester branch but there’s one in London. Face to face or at a distance. It’s not cheap - but the in-person experience is very pleasant and I daresay the distance learning options are equally good in a different way.

OP, take a look at City Lit in London. Many courses are fully online. I'm doing a DELF diploma - 2 hours a week of teaching & conversation, plus a couple of hours (often less) of listening to radio/TV/podcasts or a bit of homework. Teaching is really good. They have all different levels for languages. It's v enjoyable.
