Going to uni!

I'm desperate to go to uni, I'm not sure what it is for ages I've wanted to. I tried open uni however it just really wasn't for me. I'm wanting to go back to do BSc Computing, has anyone got any advise or tips? How do you afford childcare? Is it possible to work around uni? So many questions, just not sure if it would be the best idea as I'm on a very good wage so would loose that

I went at night, other half watched children. Had to take a break 1/2 way when I became pregnant. Very very worth it!

I’d go onto the UCAS site and read everything.

Do you want to study full or part time?

Try and draw up a shortlist of universities (don’t obsess over just one) and attend as many in person or virtual open days as you can. That way you’ll uncover what’s possible and what you really want and where is most likely to provide it.

What is it u think u think you'll get from the campus uni experience?

I did it last 3 years (second degree) and I still worked one day a week for my employer who were very flexible which days I did to work around lectures.

I just did it for "fun" rather than career (though law always useful) so how do you think the degree will aid you? Are you stuck with local universities or would you move? Do you have the grades for courses or would you need to resist/do further a levels.

You really need to see what is available and maybe look towards part time study (If available). As an adult returner an access course might be a good option, alternatively doing an HNC/HND in computing and progressing to Uni. Applications for most places will start in January onwards.

I don't know anything about computing though - I returned as a mature student and I didn't regret it, but I kept my lower paid job throughout. Giving up a well paid job will be tougher.

Some universities might provide childcare from a certain age? I got money towards childcare costs - It covered about 60%. Different universities/colleges/areas will offer different things.

There is a lot to think about - I think it is more a case of how you will do it rather than if though? You sound quite keen?

I won't lie, it is really tough! I have just started on my foundation year and it has been a shock to the system. I am very lucky that we can afford for me to go full time, but managing time is really hard. The university worked really hard to ensure most of my lectures were within school times so I don't really have to pay for any childcare as mine are at school. It is worth every moment though and I know it is for the greater good in the future.
