Single parent looking for universal credit advice

Looking for antidotal information about claiming universal credit whilst studying...

Does anyone have any relatively recent experience?

My student loan does not give me enough to live on, I know I'll be entitled on the months I don't get any loan but any information would be much appreciated.

Spoken to universal credit but not very helpful
TIA

Put the number into a benefit calculator. Either turn2us or entitled2. And see what info you get.

Labdo · 22/06/2022 18:39

The benefit calculators don’t work for student loan.

Do you have a question op?

noradelphine · 22/06/2022 18:42

I have four children and live on the outskirts of south London...

If anyone is able to tell me their situation (amount of kids, rent) and roughly how much they got on non loan payment months I would greatly appreciate it

Just to clarify, it's a non-salaried PCGE you're doing? So you're just getting the standard postgraduate loan for a one year course? Or are you doing an undergraduate degree with QTS?

Yes, standard PGCE, one year, non salaried

It depends is it post graduate or under graduate? I got hardly anything and had to get a job alongside my studies. I was a single mum at the time to 1 child, rent was £600 a month. I got the full maintenance loan and I think I got maybe £300 in universal credit? But they massively overplayed me for a year so I ended up with basically nothing by the time they took the repayments out.

To answer your question

A PGCE offers the equivalent of 60 credits at postgraduate level. A PGCE is not technically a postgraduate degree, although it is considered an advanced postgraduate non-degree qualification. This is due to a PGCE being a vocational program that directly relates to teaching careers.

Sorry had to Google because it's a little confusing
