Can I ask for a remark/moderation of coursework?

As the thread title really. I don't want to be a difficult student/whinge bag but the marking is very out of step with previous work I've done and the feedback doesn't seem to reflect what's in the work (says things are missing that are included etc). The work hasn't been through a second marker/moderation.

Is there a way to ask without sounding like a pain?

I think if there are actual errors in feedback, then yes it's ok to ask.
Have you double checked all the attachments uploaded?
Someone submitted something recently and it was just her name.

Thanks @SuperLoudPoppingAction

Yes all there - I've checked on turnitin and asked my other half to check. It's typically comments like 'please describe x' and x is described in the very next sentence, or you haven't defined y and y is defined in that very same section (with the appropriate, referenced definition). Also things like 'the papers referred to here are too old' when I've deliberately picked new research from 2020 and 2021. I honestly feel like I'm in some parallel universe reading the feedback. The feedback is clearly meant for me but doesn't seem to reflect what is written. Weirdly, the same marker marked my second piece for that module and gave it a ridiculously high score so I'm utterly confused.

Is there a way to ask that isn't too impolite?

Does it say on your feedback who marked it?
That sounds like something that should be flagged up, really.

Anyway, I think if you stick to the inaccuracies, you will be fine.
Something like 'I hoped to learn from the feedback as the grade was lower than I had expected, and quite out of step with my other grades. However, the comments don't seem to fit the work I submitted.
(What you wrote above)
Is it possible for the work to be looked at again? I would like some feedback that reflects the work I submitted, so I can improve my work in the future'

Obviously if most of the feedback is stuff like 'you didn't engage critically with the material' or 'this work doesn't show the depth we would look for at this stage' with the extra stuff thrown in on top, your grade might not change.
But if the mistakes are the only justification for a low grade, you have a strong case.

I'm not sure how you appeal a grade in your institution so can't advise on that.
But if I had marked something and my feedback bore no relation to the work, I would want to know.

I tend to add student initials to my feedback forms so I don't upload the wrong one, and every student gets their own folder. If it were the first time I had submitted feedback online, and I didnt have a good system, I could easily send someone the wrong feedback form.

Thank you for that - thats all really helpful. I'll follow-up and see how it works out.

Neither of these is your concern!

If there is clearly something wrong with the marking you have every right to enquire. How could that ever be considered ‘impolite’? And why would ineffective politeness be in any way a valuable quality in a graduate career candidate? Getting the correct grade for your work is important - it’s not ‘being a pain’ to ensure that happens.
