I am going to be starting an online post graduate course through John Hopkins, but I really have no idea of what it will entail?
Has anyone done anything similar and can enlighten me somewhat?

I have resolved not to let it steal too much of my energy …

This is strange OP. Do you have any idea what a masters degree is and how much work they are? You don’t even know the fees. They’re not cheap!

A very good plan I think.

Still the strangest bridge I have ever seen on MN,

So having finally had a day not filled by my job and my other commitments (not many but with Fibromyalgia...) I have read through the website thoroughly, looked at the loans available through John Hopkins for undertaking the course and started doing some basic research on other avenues of funding. As well as starting to formulate an email around the disabilities that I suffer from.
Anyone who fancies talking about the amazingness of this area of study, please do come back to the thread.

I'm interested in Graeco-Roman, mediaeval and Victorian medical practices and theories, but I wouldn't pay $18,000 for a certificate in the subject from anywhere, unless it was a clear - and clearly demonstrable - career investment.

Unless I was loaded I suppose. I guess your partner is loaded and wants you to be happy. Which is nice. Good luck with it all.

Unless you have been registered disabled or at least receive pip

Then writing an email about your condition is unlikely to swing any funding

I'm not after financial support off the back of that, merely the support detailed below:

This is so weird.

I was looking around at historical-type Masters and almost applied for this one :

www.gcu.ac.uk/study/courses/details/index.php/P00981/Health_History/

At Glasgow Caledonian/Strathclyde. The full MSc which is a lot more advanced than the Certificate is about £7.5k and if you haven't done an advanced degree before you will probably get funding.

Now, I have heard of John Hopkins and they are a fairly famous institution. But their entry requirements for this online thing are "any undergraduate degree". Not necessarily history based. The Glasgow based one requires a history-related degree. And the American one says you will take between 2 to 4 years to get this certificate thing.

US education is pricey, but their entry requirements are lower and it reads that if you have the cash, they'll take anyone.

It does seem that you're definitely not going into this with your eyes open, or indeed any clear idea of WHY you want to do it, and what you're hoping to get out of it.
