Anyone in their 30s/40s doing an apprenticeship?

Hi all,

I’m 40 and a couple of months into a HR apprenticeship. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve bitten off more than I can chew! Anyone else in a similar boat, how are you finding it?

I am doing a QTS (Assessment only) secondary school - I was 50 (and became a nanny!) in JanuaryGrin

37 here and I'm doing a L7 in an accountancy too and also started before lockdown. I'm on the final level and have 4 exams to go. It's not been easy by any means and have often really struggled to find time (2 dc) but it'll be so worth it.

Still earning a decent salary (which has also been increasing inline with becoming more qualified) as in a senior position. I have no regrets so far Smile

38 and doing a Level 7 MBA, alongside full time job and two children under 6.

Nearly feels like it’s going to finish me off at times, but all exams passed and only the massive assignment to finish plus the evidence piece, end point assessment and business project.

I will finish it, it won’t finish me, and I will be proud of what I have achieved.

If you can do it, I say go for it. I have learnt so much from the other people on my cohort as well as the course.

I really like the look of the MBA... it's a shame it's not available as an apprenticeship as I'm not sure I could manage the time-commitment (along ft work) otherwise.

@christinarossetti19

Is there any way of getting a apprenticeship with a job attached iykwim?

I know employers fund them through the apprenticeship levy, but I wondered if anyone knows if it's possible to get a 'job with apprenticeship' in your 50s?

I did, I got a job as a TA in a private school on condition I did the apprenticeship qualification. I was 50 at the time. Pay was (and still is) rubbish but the job suited what I needed at the time.

Someone was asking about apprenticeships here, recently - so perhaps they’ll find this.

My job is fairly well paid, it’s not an apprenticeship wage job. I also get 20% OTJ (in theory anyway!). It’s going ok. I’ve passed 2 assignments already, have some work to do on one more and have another one due in 2 weeks. Enjoying the workshops. Getting there! It’s a bit of a slog now though but im not going to give up and waste this opportunity for development and progression. Shuddering at the thought of the EPA! Hope everyone else is getting on ok. Nice to hear some other viewpoints.
