Universal credit and being a full time student

I am so confused over this. Can I claim universal credit as a full time university student? I have a DH, he earns around 20k a year. 2 kids and mortgage. I am trying to work as many bank shifts (NHS) as I can and I'm claiming a student loan and a bursary (wales if that makes a difference)? Does anyone else successfully claim universal credit in similar circumstances? X

Speak to your university finance team, they’ll be able to talk you through it!

I'm pretty sure student loan counts as income. Which is shit because its a loan. But your uni welfare people should be able to help you work out the best option.

I had bursary and tax credits as a ft student with 2 primary aged kids. DH earned less than 10k. I earned about 4k. No loan.

You are not entitled to UC if you are a full time student. The student loan is deemed to be sufficient income for a student to live on. I agree it seems unfair.I do think it is time the government looked on students more favourably regarding finances. wish you look with your studies

Incorrect.

I get UC and am a full time student, however I’m a single parent.
