Has anyone tried “activated” or fermented nuts?

Hi all,
I’m hoping for some neutral opinions and experiences.
I recently came across the concept of “activated” or fermented nuts and wondered whether there’s actually anything behind it in terms of digestion, or if it’s mostly marketing.
The reason I’m asking is that I recently tried some activated organic nuts from a German brand called 2DiE4 Live Foods. I ordered them while looking for sustainably produced organic food, not specifically because of the “activated” claim. I was quite sceptical at first.
That said, I was genuinely surprised. They tasted very fresh and, for once, I didn’t get the heavy, bloated feeling afterwards that I sometimes experience when eating nuts. Of course that could be coincidence, but it made me curious whether there’s something to the soaking/fermentation process.
I’ve never really heard of activated or fermented nuts before and don’t think it’s very common here in London.
Has anyone else come across this, or knows whether there’s any real nutritional or digestive benefit? Or is it just another food trend?
Thanks in advance 🙂
Doodie

Marketing trend. It's been fashionable here in Aust for over a decade and nope there's no good science to back it up at all.

This sounds interesting. I'd like to hear more about them too.

Re the fermented thing, I can't tolerate ordinary bread (stomach pain) but I can eat proper sourdough, that's fermented.

Wrong. Scientific papers on the stomach's microbiome abound. As do studies on the nutritional value of sprouted seeds.

I soak/sprout my own. Not difficult at all — just make sure you're starting with raw as opposed to dried or roasted nuts/seeds.

I never said there was no research on the stomach microbiome. Can you link us to a study specifically on the benefits of soaked and dried nuts?
