Does anyone do this when low carbing? What would I look for? I had to do it when pregnant with GD but 12 years ago now have forgotten it all.

No. But I do use the ketostix urine strips (available via Amazon) to see if I’m in ketosis. Then I know I’m optimal for burning fat for energy.

I buy a Libre Freestyle to wear for a fortnight most years, to check my blood sugar levels are staying low. I have been low carb

Pressed posts soon

Have been low carbing for years snd find this really helpful to reassure that all is well. Absolutely hated the finger prick method do find the monitor linked to my phone ideal.

Nah. If you eat properly low carb you don't need to as your blood sugar will be low by default. You also don't need to use ketostix as if you're drinking enough water they won't show correct results anyway. But you can if you want - some people like to see numbers/stats etc. If it works for you, great. But there's no need to.

Very useful overall. You can see your specific reaction to various carbs. Some spike more than others.

HappyDane · 07/10/2024 11:49

(it also depends on what one means by low carb, mind. If it's just lower carb then yes monitoring can be useful to check how your approach is actually working for you and whether or not your bloods are happy with how you're doing it)

But abbot freestyle Libre. So easy with your mobile phone.

I am happy with finger prick one. I don’t want to wear something all the time

I use Freestyle Libre and find it very helpful and it really keeps me on track. I do have Type 2 diabetes though, which I’m determined to get into remission from via diet and exercise.

Pointless if you're not diabetic.
