High Urea levels (high protein diet)

In theory, low carb I g doesn't mean higher protein as you replace the carbs with fats really.

However, in practice if you use low carb alternative breads, cereals or nut bars they tend to be high protein.

I've been on a low carb diet for over a year to lower my blood glucose. It's worked and my levels are now normal. I recent had a full set of blood tests done as part of a health thing through work. Everything in normal range except for urea levels which are high. I will get a feed back session but while I'm waiting I've done a bit of reading up.

Urea can indicate kidney issues but my other kidney measures are normal. It can also be a result of a high protein diet and or dehydration.

Has anyone come across a similar issue when low carb ing?

In the meantime I'm going to up my fluid intake and try to watch the protein.

If you are worried cut out the processed stuff. If you need inspiration take a look at Eric Westman on YouTube, he advocates for a fairly no nonsense low carb diet.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

I made myself very ill on keto so had to gain weight and introduce more carbs which has worked and I've still managed to get my blood sugar down and stable. I got put off a lot of foods that are keto friendly and even the smell of some things put me off eating completely e.g. Eggs, cheese, almond bread etc so I confess I've become a bit lazy.

However, I'm back to a healthy weight now so I need to make more effort and I definitely don't drink enough. Just realised the time and all I've had to drink is a glass of water with lunch and the milk in my cereal.

I'm not going to panic until I hear what the Dr has to say at my feedback session.
