Breaking a low carb diet

I wondered whether anyone could help me? I know low carb works for me and I'm keen to get back on it. However, I have a few events coming up where I know it's going to be almost impossible to stay low carb (family events where I will be expected to eat rice and where I'd rather do so than refuse, which would cause offence). Obviously I can just eat a bit rather than lots and that's fine. But I wondered whether anyone could tell me how this is likely to effect my weight loss and how I feel- I get the impression that for most people going over their carbs is an absolute no. If it just stalls my loss for a few days, that's fine.

In my experience, rice and potatoes in small amounts on one occasion won't set you back too much, maybe a day or two. I find that a full day or two off plan is when i start to feel bloated, and ill again and properly kicks me out of ketosis For some reason wheat based stuff is much worse but that might just be me.

Load up your plate with veggies and meat/dairy where you can and cover/ hide it under a thin layer of rice if you have the option of serving yourself. Say your too full for pudding.

The important thing is to not let this be the start of falling off the wagon, its so easy once you come off as the hunger and cravings can return.

Surely you can't possibly live the rest of your life like this.
Just eat well most of the time and enjoy a treat sometimes.
I am a size 6 and 44 I've never been on a diet in my life. I just eat healthy most of the time, stick to natural non processed food, avoid carbs and sugar as much as possible but never 365 days a year, just make healthy your default and have a treat but then return to healthy as normal.

You will be fine. A bit of a stall or water weight, bump in the road but keep going .
I would:

  • Fast before that special meal
  • The days after keep strict, make sure to stock your fridge so if you're hungover or tired there is low carb food and no excuse
  • Avoid the scales for a week after the event
  • Enjoy every bite but only it it's really special and tasty don't binge for the sake of binging.
  • Try and up the physical work out afterwards

Things to note:

  • Alcohol will affect you more if you haven't drunk in a while so watch out for getting drunk too quickly
  • Sugar will also go to your head very quickly
  • Try to eat more protein on your plate than carbs if possible
  • Your digestion will be strange for a couple of days to a week just go back to low carbing strictly.
What we look like is the result of what we eat and do 90% of the time, not the few times a year when we pig out.

Read the glucose goddess, hacks are apple cider vinegar before eating, always try to have a green starter /high fibre first which slows the sugar spike, followed by protein and fats and lastly starches such as rice and dress your carbs e.g make sure you pair them with a healthy fat.
