Keto & Christmas

Hello
i started keto this year and lost two stone, I want to maintain over Christmas, not just for weight loss but because I think I would be really ill if I Went too heavy on the carbs now. But I’m a bit perplexed as to how I’m going to manage it.
i am thinking about menus now because my parents are coming down and will be staying for a few days so I want to make sure what I prepare suits all.
I think I have resigned to the fact that I won’t be able to skip roasties on the day, but what about the other days- I thinking especially for Christmas Eve. Can anyone share Keto/ Christmas recipes?
thanks!

If your worried about being ill then start increasing your carbs gradually a couple of weeks before?

I eat what I like on Xmas day but get back to it on Boxing Day, however if your keto and not low carb it might be a bit much.

There are lots of websites on line wit recipes. Off the top of my head wholesome yum, sweet as honey, cafe Delites and ruled me are some of the recipe sites I use. But if you google keto Christmas recipes lots come up.

When I was on keto over Christmas I was mostly fine, extra carbs for roasties and stuffing were fine, I didn't put weight back on.

New Year's Day was my big downfall, I thought a small portion of Eaton mess would be ok, it wasn't, I had horrific stomach cramps. I have IBS that is completely gone when on keto properly, it came back with an absolute vengeance and I spent most of the day in the bathroom.

Why not go over to the Low Carb Bootcamp topic? There are several recipe threads there (ordered by food type - meat, or poultry/fowl, vegetarian, desserts) which might inspire you.

Sounds like your mindset is a bit fixed on special meals being carb-heavy! Which obviously doesn't have to be the case.

You could also check out Monya Killan-Palmer's website. She's written some really lovely keto/low carb recipes.

@BIWI I know you've been doing the boot camp stuff forever so I'm asking you as an authority here!

I am veggie but have autoimmune disease. Would low carb be likely to help me? I would benefit from losing a couple of stone. I didn't even realise low carb was really possible as a veggie! I eat a lot of bread 😕

I may be an 'authority' (I'm really not Grin) but I'm not a medic, so that's a very difficult question to answer. However, there's a lot of evidence that a low carb diet can be anti-inflammatory - which might help you.

There's an excellent book, written by bariatric surgeon Dr Andrew Jenkinson, called Why We Eat (Too Much) which you might find helpful. It's really easy to read. He also has a website which might be helpful

You can do low carb as a veggie, although it isn't quite as easy as if you were a carnivore. Rose Elliot has written a low carb diet book, and there's also a recipe book to go with it.

But why not come over to the current Bootcamp thread (which is being run this time around by @prettybird), and chat with us there? I think there are a few other veggies doing it, which might be helpful.

Hi @ChakaKhanfan and @SquirrelSoShiny

As @BIWI says, we're currently running a Pre-Christmas Boot Camp, and I, for my sins, have picked up her reins this time around Shock

Pre-Christmas 22 Boot Camp: Week 4 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/lowcarbb_bootcamp/4671753-pre-christmas-22-boot-camp-week-4

As it happens, we've just had a discussion about how we'll cope with Christmas and what our strategies are. Xmas Smile

I for one usually serve myself up a single roast potato at our main Christmas dinner (on Christmas Eve - Danish tradition) and on Christmas Day, but I often don't finish it Xmas Smile - as I'm too full Xmas Shock

I've adapted a canapé recipe I've made for many years ("All the taste of Christmas in a single bite" Xmas Wink) to be fully low carb compliant, which I need to load up on the Boot Camp recipe threads. (Essentially I've replaced the breadcrumbs in the stuffing recipe with good quality sausage meat).
