Yes but much much harder as much more restrictive as you won't be able to have your carbs, legumes, beans or fruit.

But a vegan diet is healthy enough surely?

We’ll if you’re not going to eat higher carb beans like chickpeas and other legumes, where will you get your protein? Tofu, soybeans, and nuts? Can you eat enough to cover your protein needs? You’ll have to eat more fat to stay full for longer.

Not really, as it's high fat. Maybe analysing your diet to see how many calories you are taking in would be more helpful, or try intermittent fasting to lose weigh t?

I don't understand this statement, sorry. Why 'Not really as It's high fat'?

OP I did it for months. It worked wonders, but it was quite samey and I did eventually worry about the UPFs in it. I'd find vegan faux meats (burgers etc, checking label for carbs) and eat salads or stir fries with them and low carb veg (leafy ones etc) and low carb stir fry sauces or vegan mayo/olive oil, seeds, home made salsa. Coffee mate do a low carb creamer for coffee. Hot chocolate made with cocoa and soy milk and 'skinny' sweetener.

I'd not recommend it long term due to the UPFs, although tofu instead of the processed burgers and chicken substitutes is better.

Doable yes, boring yes, unhealthy-perhaps. I was worried about salt and additives.

Healthy not necessarily! Yesterday I had three vegan burgers at a BBQ with vegan cheese, mayo, fried onions, with lots of potato wedges , on white bread buns. Followed by cake and too much of it. I drank lots of wine (beer also available to me) and had a packet of salted nuts. I very rarely eat such rubbish so It'll be fine, but chips, white bread, processed foods, vegan chocolate, crisps, booze are all vegan or vegan options available and I'd soon need my own postcode (and likely have heart trouble!) if I ate like I did yesterday on a regular basis :)

I'm finding veggie low carb enough of a challenge without eating a) absolute crap or b) exactly the same meal every day

If you don't mind a) or b) it's doable Grin

The Venn diagram has a teeny tiny cross over for high fat / unprocessed / low carb / vegan

A580Hojas · 04/09/2022 19:55

It's a tiny, restrictive diet. There aren't any magic solutions I'm afraid op. The whole mantra of low carb is that it's also high fat and you don't get much fat in a vegan diet especially if seed oils are also off limits. And lots of vegans won't even eat the only high fat vegetable - avocado.

I'm mostly vegan, don't eat eggs but do have cheese about twice a week. I've got into a bit of a routine now that I know what the most suitable foods are (i.e. lots of tofu, soy milk, soy yogurt, chia pudding, avocado!) I know that not everyone counts carbs but I have found it helpful (although I won't do it for ever). I started about 6 weeks ago and have lost 11lbs so far, although there was a weekend away in the middle of that.

I am bumping this thread because I am doing low carb again and honestly, I am wanting some advice because I am using MFP and yesterday I apparently had TWICE as much sodium as I should have (thanks vegan mince)!

As I've said upthread I am worried about UPFs, I don't eat a lot of them when I eat a normal diet-I cook a lot from scratch, beans, pulses, veg etc but doing low carb is proving difficult without them.

I am considering doing as much in the way of leafy green salads with olives and seeds but I can see me getting very fed up of that very quickly!
