Low-carb diets

What is your go-to when unwell if low carbing?

My old "go to" when I was feeling unwell was toast. If I'd been sick, ready salted crisps and coke really helped.
But now I'm low carb-ing. This morning I tried buttered toast and have the most awful stabbing stomach pains.
So what do you eat as a go-to when unwell if you low-carb?

What sort of unwell? Stomach / sick type unwell or flu / exhausted sort?

FusionChefGeoff · 10/05/2022 20:50

I love cheese and ham omelettes as comfort food. Good if fluey / feeling crap. Strawberries and creme fraiche also ticks this box.

But if you're after something not so rich ie for tummy issues - but that's easy to do I guess I'd go for flattened chicken breast fried with some broccoli?? Or roasted Med veg

If you’re really unwell carbs don’t matter as far as I’m concerned. That takes some serious dedication (obsession) to think about what you’re eating when genuinely poorly.

or are we talking about the recovery stage?

Scrambled eggs, chicken soup or broth, egg in a cup.

Steaming bowls of some kind of soup made with homemade chicken broth. Salty, comforting and good for topping up fluids.

Post migraine sickness, when I'm ready for food, but feeling fragile.

I agree, I wasn't worrying about remaining low carb, hence the toast. But the stomach pains were a shock and didn't help my recovery 🙁

Tesco fresh chunky chicken and vegetable soup, it’s like a huge hug in a bowl!

Eggs of some kind. Scrambled or omelette maybe, with some mushrooms, ham and cheese in.

Sassy306 · 10/05/2022 21:31

Crisps made out of cheese or some Boullion made as a hot drink is great for headaches during and after. If I want something sweet it's some berries dipped in a mix of melted coconut oil, square of 85% chocolate and a splash of cream (goes like a mouse). You can also team it with low Carb pancakes for that stodge factor you may be craving

Chicken soup or scrambled egg for me. I might have a piece of buttered toast with it as well if it sounded nice at the time but I eat low-carb bread most mornings anyway.

Chicken or tomato soup.

The BRATY diet is best for sickness recovery (Banana Rice Apple Toast Yoghurt), so maybe try the other 4?

Didicat · 10/05/2022 22:15

Two hard boiled eggs in a cup chopped roughly 1 tbsp of butter lots of salt and pepper is my go to even when not low carbing

CrabPuff · 10/05/2022 22:19

baked chicken with cauli mash
