Had anyone got any tips or advice, I have started fast 800 keto diet , I thought the book was easy to understand however on my first day I have found it difficult to have 50g carb, 50 gram protein under 800 calories, I will revisit the book tonight as maybe I have misinterpreted

@comfortablyfrumpy

For those who've done this, how easy is it to fit fast 800/very fast 800 with other family members? I cook for 1 or 2 (fussy) teens (depending on whether at uni or not) and an elderly dad. Teens particularly would live on carbs if they could.

I have 3 stone to lose, well 2 would be a good start and 3 would take me back to where I was pre menopause.

I've ballooned especially since starting mirtazapine and need to shift this, I feel awful and just can't fit into anything.

@comfortablyfrumpy I’ve 3 children and did this a couple of years ago - I added potatoes, pasta, rice etc to the dishes for the children as they need carbs. They are not dieting and the last thing I wanted is them cutting out/down in anything. Lots of the recipes worked well doing this.

I'm considering giving this a go. I'm no stranger to ketosis etc but really need some structure and some guidance at the moment.

I've just signed up for the online trial and had a good look around. My question is whether I really need to pay the £100 for the online plan or whether I can just use the book? I know it's down to personal choice and either will be effective off followed but just wondering whether people believe the £100 is worth the investment. Is the online experience far superior?

Thanks @Kimlek that's the approach I've taken.

So far it's worked out reasonably well. I'm not in ketosis yet (which is frustrating) but I do feel far less bloated and clothes a bit less stretched.

@WeDontTalkAboutBrunoNoNoNo I have just bought the book, I didn't sign for the online trial (though I might). There was enough in there for me for the moment. I might sign up along the way though.

@comfortablyfrumpy thanks. I've just taken a quick look at the book in Waterstones and I think it will do for now so I'll start with that. I might sign up online if I think I need a bit more structure wise. I love the shipping list and meal plan element. Seems super easy

comfortablyfrumpy · 24/04/2022 09:26

Question for folks doing this , how long are you taking to go into ketosis?

comfortablyfrumpy · 25/04/2022 09:09

Weighed this morning and think I've lost 2lb. I certainly feel so much less bloated, though have a long way to go. I'm hoping that as I put most of this weight on fairly recently, it won't be so hard to shift. I have so few clothes that fit, it's so annoying that i let myself put so much weight on in the first place.
Starting to feel less hungry, and pee sticks say I'm on the way to ketosis so that's good news.

What if you don't have time to cook? I usually grab a salad on my way home

Salads are good. How about keeping a stock of salad ingredients at home, with easy protein sources to add - hard boiled eggs, smoked mackerel, cold chicken etc ?
Then you can put together a salad in 5 minutes

comfortablyfrumpy · 25/04/2022 10:06

...Ooh and seeds to sprinkle on.

I see it's a Mediterranean based keto type thing, lower cal but higher carb than traditional keto (probably better for women tbh, men are better with the higher fat lower carb). My issue is I really really hate courgette and cucumber, not a massive fan of peppers but will eat as a push, and dont like feta or goats cheese or any of the above.

On the flip side, my usual keto is working for weight loss but cant be healthy long term. I have days where all i eat is meat and cheese and no veg/fibre.

How based on roasted veg are the meals? I see sample recipes are stuff like chicken skewers, baked fish, avocado heavy salads. If you've tried it, what are your faves? Or do you just do the suggested meal plan ones?

I've tried the green chef keto boxes but they were just quite high carb for simple meals I didnt need ingredients or a recipe card for.

turtletum · 27/04/2022 22:29

I've just got the book, with some suggested recipes. There are curries, soups, beef stroganoff is one of my faves, tarragon chicken, parmesan fish. I just mix and match. Not eaten any courgette, but you can just have unlimited amounts of green veggies with each meal. I've had mange tout, broccoli, kale, cabbage. I tend to have cauliflower rice with most meals. There's a fair bit of nuts, seeds and cheese to pair with the meat/fish.

Can I join you all? I lost 2.5 stone a few years back with 5:2 WOL and loads of running, and then pandemic, having the kids around, and an injury mean I've slowly but steadily put 2 of those stone back on. I've been dabbling with 5:2 again but just not making the mind shift that's needed to keep me on track with non-fast days so think I need a kick up the back side to get me in gear.

I've ordered and received the book and am in day 4 of low-carbing (had my 5:2 back to back and then decided to just keep going in the name of that being my start of the KetoFast800. I'm going to try to properly meal plan for the week, using the book recipes and padding out for the kids with rice, potatoes and pasta as needed. Wish DH would join in so I'm not the sad sally in the corner, but despite my talking about it non-stop he doesn't seem interested.

Idneverlietoyou · 12/07/2022 21:37

I found the book a bit rubbish, a lot of the recipes were well over the suggested amount of carbs.
I stuck to under 20 carbs a day and 800-900 calories and I lost nearly a stone in 3 weeks.

For me when I am in ketosis (from about day 3) I don't feel much hunger which made the diet relatively easy.

I ate mostly cloud bread sandwiches for lunch. Then meat or eggs with salad or green veg for dinner so not too much cooking to do.
It's the only diet that has worked for me that hasn't made me crazy and food obsessed
